The last time I collected a ticket at Amberley I had exactly the same problem. Fortunately with persistence I did manage to get the ticket to print.
I emailed customer services reporting the problem with the screen and asking what I should do the next time.
They said to speak to the onboard...
So putting your journey from Gipsy Hill to Horley via Balham into the National Rail journey planner, it shows that via Balham is not a permitted route, and requires a combination of tickets purchasing.
I sent in a comment to Customer Services, asking for it to be forwarded to the Pricing Manager, asking why they had not applied to changes to Chichester and Havant
What just doesn't ring true to me, is breaking the journey at Farringdon to grab a coffee, one stop before the final destination of St Pancras.
Isn't there enough choice of providers at St Pancras?
