Which train family of the millennium had the least inauspicious introduction?

The 175s were abysmal iirc, only beaten by the 180s.

    National Railway Museum Changes

I guess the take home from this is - we all want different things. A museum only had so many spaces/resources etc. and has to prioritise what it aims to achieve. A guess a ramshackle collection with no overall direction brings in some people but doesn't really have a key audience and will never...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

I think those have been mothballed, don't quote me on that, but I'm sure I read on here it's been out of use for a while now.

Northern Tender for up to 450 units

The 170s are superb units, it'll be a real shame to lose them. Best trains they've got... far superior to 195s.

BBC News - Train drivers overwhelmingly middle-aged white men

I ignore the BBC, they are irrelevant.

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

That photo is of Herries Road which goes from Hillsborough up to the Northern General. You are correct in the Kelham area the road goes over the railway line, Pitsmoor Road being one of them.

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

Is it wrong to dream a little and have some ambition? Before you say it's all pie in the sky, all the routes I mentioned are up and running, all the connections are already there. You'd need some new track and platforms at Victoria and then rebuilt stations on the line up to Stocksbridge, which...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

None of the routes I suggested require a connection with Midland station, all could use Victoria alone. Chesterfield via the Old Road (then to Nottingham/London etc.) Lincoln and Cleethorpes are both direct out of Victoria. Rotherham via Woodburn Jct and round to Meadowhall South - could then...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

The tram is great from Middlewood to Sheffield centre no dispute. But if I wanted to catch a train to say York, Lincoln or Manchester. I'd have to drive to Middlewood, park and wait for a tram. Then catch a yellow tram to Hillsborough, change at Hillsborough and wait ten minutes for a blue route...

Is ‘train station’ replacing ‘railway station’ in UK passenger rail terminology?

Wow I've never considered train tracks to be infantile or juvenile. In fact I never even realised it was a thing that wound people up. Maybe its a class thing? I'm working class and I've never been very bothered about specifics of train station or railway station. What I really hate though and...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

Could technically do both. There's no reason there couldn't be a link from Middlewood onto the Don Valley Line, I think this has been looked into before, but it would cost a lot more to set up than using the existing line. The buses cater for passengers living on the estates and travelling...

150's. They belong in the cess pool of history.

Completely agree. 153s were the worst second generation trains bar non. They were only exceeded in awfulness when a batch of 142s were butchered into the Merseyrail monsters, which then became the worst trains to ever run on British railway metals since the Rainhill trials. :) 150s are merely...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

Train would be preferable on the Don Valley and Barrow Hill lines. Although low platforms have been mentioned as a future stumbling block, the other issue is with net zero stuff. If the Don Valley and Barrow lines had to go electric it'd be problematic installing overheads (battery trams...
