    Jubilee line extension beyond Stratford

What about a branch off the Central loop from Wanstead (instead of the train continuing round onto the mainline towards Leytonstone), stopping at an interchange with the Epping branch near the Green Man roundabout, Whipps Cross hospital, Lea Bridge Road and Walthamstow Central? It'd be around...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

It hasn't neccesarily swung uniquely in favour of mixed goods trains - it just helps to boost the traffic potential in the business case. I otherwise totally agree.

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

It would be logical, seeing as they run both stations.

Proposed Transdev X41/X43 Changes within Manchester

The through ticketing is a decent advantage, I'll give you that. But the frequency disparity significantly compensates. Shudehill is a good place to serve as one of the stops - agreed on that, I just don't get why they don't bother with the 5 mins on to Picc Gardens. It isn't horrifically...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

You'd bother mostly because the roads are so vulnerable to weather-based disruption and congestion that the journey time cannot be guaranteed even 24hrs from departure. 1715893598 Of course they can transport it to a siding near Buxton now - but the existing line points in the wrong direction...

I think TfGM employ them directly AFAIK

Proposed Transdev X41/X43 Changes within Manchester

I don't know how much you know East Lancs, but the current Blackburn to Kirkby rounders cannot be relied on for a start of a journey where there are connections, whereas the buses are a lot more frequent and can be trusted to arrive no more than 30 mins late max, usually. Via Preston is a bit...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

    1) The road haulage options in the southern direction are super limited. 1 train every couple of days of mixed goods is possible, but not one solely from one factory. 2) an oversight from me. Fair point. 1715736682 It's a long way round to the Midlands and South via Chinley, down the only...

That would require an upgrade of Chinley to Buxton via Peak Dale to passenger standards for barely any benefit. Better to introduce connections with the fast Sheffield services stopping at Hazel Grove, if your goal is Sheffield connections.

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

Potentially Buxton water, Federal Mogul in Chapel, Swizzels Matlow in New Mills, Flowflex piping factory in Buxton are all places where a southern link would be an attractive proposition. The WCML through Stockport and Crewe is congested and there's no potential for any more than a few extra...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

Of course you could send it Buxton - Matlock - Derby - Stoke - WCML if that would be easier.

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

It's OK, defo worth a visit to see the gap IRL too! That's your opinion - given the hassle and abysmal reliability of changing between rail and tram anywhere on the Castlefield corridor means people will just choose the M60 the vast majority of the time, and that's only going to get worse as...

Proposed Transdev X41/X43 Changes within Manchester

More significant will be the Burnley/Rossendale/Accy/Ramsbottom flow into Picc station for long distance services though. The Burnley into Vic services are unreliable and expensive compared to the bus (even before the £2 offer - you could get a Transdev ticket bundle at just over £2 per...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

It would enable more customers to use the railway to reach their destinations in the most efficient way - for a lot of potential customers, they'll be delivering loads to the Golden warehousing Triangle around Northampton/Birmingham. A mixed load train could be a regular traffic source that...

Proposed Transdev X41/X43 Changes within Manchester

I feel this would work if they went straight to Shudehill (cutting out Victoria and the Printworks), then Picc Gardens. Question is - is there space for them at Picc Gardens?

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

Salary is not the issue in terms of cost - it's the whole environment from training to CPCs etc. And the volumes a train can move compared to a lorry are in a different ballpark (as you acknowledge).

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

The industry in the area mostly suits the rail transport model though - big bulk loads from quarries and perhaps water bottles to large supermarket distribution centres (especially now that a lot of them are rail connected). I've also remembered that Highland Spring has proven the concept with...

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

It's for travel between the outer South Manchester boroughs without going through the city centre. There's a lot of attractions/major traffic sources on the west side of Manchester that are easily accessed from the M60 and roads coming off it (Trafford Centre/both Old Trafford football and...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

Usually freight transports costs are competitive, yes, but the job is increasingly unattractive and HGV drivers are very hard to come by (source - I currently am working in logistics.)

Reducing compared to the post-Covid peak - but on a long term increased trajectory!
