Have the advances from Swansea to Paddington been changed, alot of them are £32 but the other day I was able to get a £12.50 ticket on 22:45 on the most future dates.

The range of standard class advance fares from Swansea to London Terminals goes from £12.50 up to £102.50. There are no fewer than ten tiers of standard advance fare on the flow, and there is a 50p addition if travel on ATW is contemplated.

The lowest tier of Advance fare will not always be available on every service; it will depend on what FGW thinks the market will bear and on how many people have booked seats on the trains so far.

I recently got Advance tickets at the lowest tier for a Friday evening train from Swansea to Paddington, so they definitely still exist! Date of travel is late October, so it may be that you have to be pretty quick to get the low fares.

I've never been able to get any within a couple of weeks of travel, I usually buy a walk up ticket as the savings with Advances can be minimal (or non existent).

FGW thought police?

This appears to be on the AP SLOUGH routed tickets.

Swansea to London Paddington lowest advance tiers :

WES ADVANCE SINGLE STD
00820 GREAT WESTN ONLY ADULT £12.50 CHILD £6.25

Restriction Code: QS

Valid on First Great Western
(TOC Code: GWR) services only.

Seat reservations are
compulsory.

WES ADVANCE SINGLE STD
00411 AP SLOUGH ADULT £13.00 CHILD £6.50

Restriction Code: IS

OUTWARD TRAVEL:

Valid on First Great Western
(TOC Code:GWA/GRW) and most
connecting services (see
below)

NOT valid on SouthEastern High
Speed services (HS1) arriving
at London St Pancras
International before 0959. or
departing London St Pancras
International between 1600 and
1859, Monday to Friday.

Seat reservations are
compulsory.

So yes it would appear that if you travel with ATW to Cardiff & then FGW to London you are charged the extra 50p.

Same with Virgin - the relevant &connections tickets for each tier are about 50p or so more?
