I've never seen anyone on this forum say that they have had a reply from Colas in all the years they've been recruiting.

'Behavioural skills'

"Congratulations, if you made it past this section without vomiting, we'd love to hear from you!"

Do you know what I'm going to do?
Having read all that, I'm feeling inspired to maximise my personal edge. And maximise my personal edge I will.

Wow! I'm my own life coach!

I applied for a controller role with Colas about a year ago and I never heard anything back.

Applied for the rail engineering apprenticeship with them some months ago. Never heard anything back. Definantly worth applying though for anyone in the area.

"Majority of training will be carried out in Derby. However upon successful completion of the training period, you are required to re-locate as per the job requirement."

Guessing you can't choose where to locate to in the unlikely event of them actually getting back to you?

I thought most of their drivers worked from home?

English Literature though guys. Make sure you have read Of Mice and Men from cover to cover. Very important for train driving.

I assume it just means English, but that made me chuckle too.

If Mice and Men....there’s a blast from the past...”Hey, Geoooooorge” :D

I’m beginning to think Colas is just a drug trafficking front and no one actually works for the company.

I also applied many years ago for a job I was fully qualified for and got no response.

It's certainly an odd set up. The drivers that drive the test trains can't do the freight such as the logs and vice versa

Tempted to apply but on the (optional) questionnaire it does ask if you'd be ready to start the course in October which given the notice period for my workplace wouldn't be feasible even if I got offered a spot tomorrow.

Pretty sure they always say something similar with giving unrealistic notice periods :D

Doesn’t sound promising from the comments, but still worth spending the whole morning applying.
Thanks for sharing the application ‍

Slightly off topic but I applied for the graduate scheme and haven't heard a peep. A month after application they sent me the situational awareness test then nothing. I sent an email to chase up and have received no response also.

Throwing myself in to contention. No mention of the 1 hour commute rule in the job spec and Wolverhampton to Derby is doable in an hour, according to a colleague at my present employer. It might be my undoing but no harm in trying. Bit of a negative reaction to this opportunity compared to opportunities at other TOC/FOCs.

Thanks for a good laugh reading this thread guys - the English Literature bit had me chuckling out loud. When you get an interview be prepared to justify why the curtain was red on page 53 of Great Expectations.
