I'd like to have a look. I'm sure the Boton - Manchester service used to go through, I think there were two possibilities, to pass through or miss entirely. Need to see a pre-salford Crescent map.

EDIT Railmap online suggests that would be the case
Bolton-Blackburn stopping services went to Pendelton via Agecroft .
Express services went through Agecroft south.

Not sure if the OP is limiting his query to extant stations close to the sites of closed stations with a different name.

If not, all of the terminal stations where the line’s been shortened and a new station built, or a new station built of part of the site of the old one. Fort William, St Ives, Morecambe etc

Guide Bridge was reduced to 2 platforms from 4 in the 80s, then, after a fire I think, the whole station was moved to the 2 formerly disused platforms. That must be a record in terms of short distance!

Going back many years on the SR - Swanley and Swanley Junction, Southampton (West/Central) and Blechynden. Not sure there is any evidence of the second now. More recently, Rochester new and old.

I'm really after places where there is still evidence of an old station adjacent (ish) to a "new" one. Pushing it, if it's possible to see the old one from anywhere on the new one. Many of the examples don't do that, but that's fine, I can look them up on a map and see if they are worth a visit (eg Pendleton as alluded to).

Thinking - if I can see a disued one from a normal station, might be a video in it.

EDIT - since I posted there's amention of Guide Bridge. Interesting, that's worth a look!!

The original Bingley station was just a few yards away from the current station.

Rotherham Masborough is a short walk from Interchange, on an open route and with platforms intact.

I think Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall Forge were not built exactly on their former sites but only APY offer a clue to a previous platform (for the school). Bradford Forster Square was rebuilt further back along the line, as was Bradford Exchange (now Interchange) but nothing of the old stations exists.

Hardly anything of Leeds Central still exists... but can I claim Leeds Wellington?

Wasn't Balloch Pier closed on and a new station built the other side of a level crossing so that the crossing could be closed? Did this possibly happen at Sheringham too (although original station is part of North Norfolk Railway)?

Jewellery Quarter and Hockley, each side of Icknield Street Bridge. A low wall remains of the up fast platform, and down below the glazed tiled subway from Hockley remains.

You can see the route the railway took, but is there anything left of the pier station?

Balloch Pier and Balloch were two stations. Both were closed and a new Balloch opened on the other side of the level crossing. The pier is still there, but I'm not sure if anything remains of the station.

The old Partick station is almost adjacent to the current one.

It's a double whammy - same applies to Partick and Merkland Street on the subway.

Marlow station was moved sideways in the late 1960s. There's a row of houses and an industrial estate on the original site.

The platforms of the old Osterley station on the Piccadilly line to Heathrow are still there, a couple of hundred yards along from the new station.

The platforms of the old Metropolitan station at Kings Cross are still there, next to the now-closed Thameslink platforms.

The former surface station on the abandoned Northern Heights extention at Highgate is directly over the current Highgate LUL station

How about Bathgate, quite a complex one.

The original station was built on what later became the goods yard. This closed in 1871 when Bathgate Upper was opened. This closed 1956 when passenger services were withdrawn .

In 1986 with the reopening to passengers between Edinburgh and Bathgate a 3rd station was built, a simple single platform. This was closed in 2010 when the current station was opened which is built on the site of the old Loco shed.

There was also Bathgate Lower less than a mile away which closed in 1930.

Yes that is indeed why a new Sheringham station was built, although the crossing has been reinstated in these, ahem, more enlightened times.

North Walsham Main (GE) is open, and North Walsham Town (M&GN) closed and gone were next to each other.

As per the OP, the closed station, I would suggest, still has to be recognizable as a former station.

Wouldn't consider that a completely razed and subsequently rebuilt upon, former station site counts, e.g. Broad Street (London).

Eltham Park and Eltham- the platforms at Eltham Park were still visible last year and about 500 metres from the current station.

Eltham Well Hall was even closer, but nothing left of that that I could see.
I passed through the area last week, but wasn't sure which of the closed platforms I could see. It's after Eltham heading towards Falconwood.

Wasn't Bromsgrove rebuilt slightly further along the track?

The old Partick station is almost adjacent to the current one.

It's a double whammy - same applies to Partick and Merkland Street on the subway.

The old Partickhill is literally on the other side of the bridge carrying the line over Dumbarton Road, while Merkland St is but a stone's throw from the Subway's current station. As is well-established, both Partickhill and Merkland St were closed in favour of a interchange station between the Subway, the bus network, the extant North Clyde Line and the Argyle Line, which was being rebuilt/reopened at this time. There are undoubtedly other examples of two such projects coming together like this, but this is Glasgow's foremost example.
