Interesting that it's got a yellow door, unlike the orange variant! Is this an attempt at going for consistency with the 350s, or just whatever Derby had to hand - they don't seem to be going for consistency on the WMR side of the business as their 730s and the 196s have black doors whilst their legacy fleet will retain yellow fronts

Looks good but they should remove the silver bit on the front.
Are you on about the strip that goes down the side of the cab windows? I think it looks alright.

Looks better than the 196 or the 701...

I like the yellow front, breaks up the black a bit.

I believe so, i think they are also the same seats on the wmr 730s but i cant confirm?

If I recall correctly it'll be the Kiel seating the same as the Greater Anglia 720s (or the 2+2 version of that seat), which seems to come highly recommended. In First Class it'll be Fainsa Sophias, which don't seem to come highly recommended. Good (!) to continue the tradition of First being inferior to Standard, I guess :D

Not the same as the 196s which are FISA LEAN. I've not seen an interior photo of a WMR 730.

Ah, i did wonder. Couldnt quite remember the correct name for them

It will be interesting to see interior photos as both variants do have small but noticeable differences interior wise

Pretty sure that the picture on the left is of a 196 - the inset door grab rail, size and shape of the door mechanism housing, and design of door button looks a lot like what we've seen on the 195s and unlike any other aventras thus far. As is the use of wall mounted TV screens rather than overhead PIS displays

It is, thought he was talking about 196 vs 730.

Lovely view of plastic for anybody who sits in those seats (in the 2nd picture)

For some reason I don't entirely understand, the way they got from a 23m (Turbostar) body to a 24m (Aventra) body appears to be by bolting on a 1m longer tapered end section with no window, which is a bit rubbish. Whereas CAF's 24m body is designed as that and isn't really tapered very much at all, and the windows go near enough all the way to the end.

The rest of it is near enough a wall of glass, though, so it's slightly bizarre that they've used the rubbish bit as a promotional photo.

Guess they wanted to showcase the wide gangways, as if they are somehow more important on this type of journey than the massive windows.

They've solved that problem in the 222 DMF.
There's a single airline seat through the door, first on the left. No view from it to the right (lavatory) , but there is a curtain to the left. You can't un-draw it easily, but if you persevere there's just a plastic wall.

:D

Blank-wall seats in 1st are lazy and unacceptable. Put a luggage rack there.

But in the present layout the luggage racks line up perfectly with the window spacing. Your luggage gets a much better view than you do :s

Then offer a mega cheap seat for you and a small supplement for your luggage which will have a lovely unobstructed view :D

Sorry if I’ve missed this in previous posts, but does anyone know why the LNWR units have yellow fronts while the WMR ones don’t? I seem to remember the original renders showing black gangways.

I would guess for consistency with the rest of the LNwR fleet. WMR fleet can reasonably pass off as standalone (and will match with the 196s) with the legacy fleets having gold instead of orange to differentiate

Apart from the first one which has gone for testing, none as far as I know?

From what I have heard and seen in recent modern railways magazine I think the focus will be on getting the WMR fleet completed and into service first as the 323s are required elsewhere before moving on to the LNR fleet. Although having the first 5 car done and off for testing will help the programme at least

I took some photos with my phone at Velim yesterday. IMG_20210221_111702.jpg

IMG_20210221_111751.jpg

I had to crop these ones (even more than the others) as the file size was too big.

Thanks for the photos Tam. I think the front end design looks neat and hopefully the flat windscreens mean no screen redesign will be needed as the Hitachi class 385 did.

They do look nice! Does anyone know what the seating capacity will be? I presume a 10 730 will have a greater amount of seats than a 12 350. But looking at the third photo down, the seats seem to line up with the windows which suggests a lower density seating layout compared to the Greater Anglia Aventras.
