Do all continental 66s have an air conditioning unit on the cab roof? The ones I've seen around Calais did. I guess these are removed prior to shipping to the UK.
At least it's better than the pink one...
Removed prior to UK entry, as they'd be out of our loading gauge if they retained them.Do all continental 66s have an air conditioning unit on the cab roof? The ones I've seen around Calais did. I guess these are removed prior to shipping to the UK.
It was the right one, just a change of plan to get back to Doncaster later todayWrong one I'm afraid, it's currently in Eastleigh and about to be hooked up to 47749 to head up to Doncaster Decoy. At the moment it's looking like the 66 will lead the 47 + the two 508 Barrier Vans.

Sounds intriguing. So at least another loco to come and be 66796.The loco originally designated as 66796 (was 561-03 in Europe) is now being renumbered as 66798
More to follow when announced.

I assume that this implies that "the system" is happy with the re-use of the number 66734. I thought there was a minimum time interval required before a number can be re-used.Not forgetting that 66734 and 66351-360 have also been registered for future use

Thank you.The system is indeed happy with the re-use of 66734 as the ORR agreed to the re-registration request by Beacon Rail last December
I believe it is seven years after complete scrapping? When did the original 66 734 get broken up? ( I don't need the accident details or nature of the scrapping - I just can't remember when it was! )I assume that this implies that "the system" is happy with the re-use of the number 66734. 66734 was the Loch Trieg one wasn't it? Feels like that was a long time ago for sure.I believe it is seven years after complete scrapping? When did the original 66 734 get broken up? ( I don't need the accident details or nature of the scrapping - I just can't remember when it was! )
Are the donor locomotives known yet?The next three conversions will be 66734, 66796 and 66799

Does seem odd that on the one hand the railway is re-using that number, but on the other hand certain headcodes are being retired... and no doubt there'll be all sorts of conspiracy theories in the future about the rush to scrap a certain 91 with a chequered history! Though the obvious difference between those is whether lives were lost, I suppose. Although it doesn't appear that there are any hard and fast rules on such things.
The derailment occurred on 28th June 2012 and the loco was officially withdrawn on that date. Scrapping on-site took place between August and September 2013 - the two cabs being retained and refurbished for use as driver training simulators at Peterborough. Were these usually double headed i know freightliner were using 66/6's on this working or is the other loco insurance.66793 out and about in the south east today
66793/794 are the same specification as the Freightliner 66/6s, so the second loco was likely there as insurance. Were these usually double headed i know freightliner were using 66/6's on this working or is the other loco insurance.
FL used a single 66/6 although right at the start of their contract there was a period where there were two on the front. Were these usually double headed i know freightliner were using 66/6's on this working or is the other loco insurance.

Went by Roberts Road today and noticed a blue 66 with what looked like removed name and number plates. I assume it was another of GBRf’s euro imports but just which one I’m afraid I can’t help.
