Is there a day pass between 2 stations?

I paid a lot in the train fare today, 1 off peak return and 2 singles between the same 2 stations.

I was shopping at Branksome, and realised that I had to get home for something to continue shopping, so I bought a return to Bournemouth.

After I complete my shopping, I bought a single back to Bournemouth as I was running short of time.

I had a meeting afterwards in somewhere north of Westbourne. There isn't any good transport there. I thought of taking a bus but I was running late and had to take the train to Branksome again, and got to the station last minute and bought a single.

If everything was known in advance, is there a day pass available for unlimited rides between the stations?

As far as I can see, there's no day rangers or rovers that would have been of use to you. There's no such thing as a day pass in general.

The closest you’ll get is either a 7 day season or a day ranger for a specific area. A season is usually only worth it for ~4 return trips while day rangers don’t cover the entire network so some areas won’t have one (I’m not sure on the specifics for Branksome<>Bournemouth).

Not going to be worth it with but in theory I guess you could get a season ticket and then get a refund for unused days.

Would that make the max cost for a day ticket between two stations the anytime return + £10 or am I missing something?

There is a 3-out-of-7 days ranger available in the area called Freedom of Severn Solent with price £63.00 for adults. However, my 26-30 railcard can't be used on it. That means, compared to the off-peak day return price of £2.5, I have to take 26 round-trips in 3 days to make it worth, which seems to be ridiculous.

A 7-day ticket between Bournemouth and Branksome costs £17.1, compared to the off-peak day return price with railcard applied, that means I have to make 7 round-trips in the week to make it worthwhile.

When you've got a railcard and you're travelling off-peak a season is very poor value for money. I'm fairly sure you can use a 26-30 Railcard on the FoSS though, http://railrover.org/pages/freedom-of-severn-and-solent-rover.html seems to think so too. Not that it's much help in this scenario.

For your specific, short journey then yes. However having used the 8? Day version of that ticket myself I found it to be excellent value.

Whilst it's off topic, such a thing does exist (kind of) in Northern Ireland although it's zonal and must include Belfast or Derry/Londonderry.

Not yet but the Flexi Season is just around the corner
The "flexi season" is replacing the current "carnet" tickets, which lets you travel as much as you like during a day, but where each day costs more than a railcard discounted return.

While looking at this on the SWR site, I noticed that they also offer the ticket below:

You can't actually buy one, though, as there are no delivery options for it.
There doesn’t appear to be one according to brfares.com:

There is a 16-25 one, so this may be unintentional. If anyone with a 26-30 railcard wishes to use this rover, it would be worth checking with SWR or someone.

For miklcct, though, the only thing which may have helped would have been to have bought a return ticket if there was any chance at all of needing one. They cost 10-15p more than a single on this route, so you don't need to catch a train back very often for this to work out cheaper than buying singles.
