I do wonder how many tickets will be sold for the first train and last train with Appleby as the start / end station compared to last year when Skipton ? If few the service could get cut to just one round trip to Carlisle.

I'm curious, is there a reason why they're starting from Appleby this year ?

They are based at Appleby, so that's where the train starts. Last year there was a timetabled opportunity to travel from Appleby to Skipton and return the same day, (off the first trip, back on the third trip) so the first and last train ran as ECS. This year for an Appleby to Skipton day return to be possible the first and last train runs in service.

Ah yes, the first departure from Leeds was quite early last year.

Last summer my nephew was due to get married near Skipton. Of course sadly the wedding was postponed until late this summer.
However last year we decided to have our staycation at the already booked house in Skipton, walking distance of the Station, but going to Yorkshire by car from Gateshead. We enjoyed a day out on the Staycation Express to Appleby visiting the Castle.
Of course last year we rebooked the house for late this summer.
Pleasently surprised this year to find the Express extended to Carlisle. So we will journey by trains both ways from our home in Dunston with changes at Hexham & Carlisle. The return journey only is £236 for 6 adults on the Express.
Much more affordable than £300 each!!!
Looking forward to going on the Settle/Carlisle in a first class HST carriage.

The timetable here.
From the RTT schedules it looks like it is being stabled at Carlisle this year.
Also RTT shows the newly painted HST moving from Eastleigh Arlington to Crewe HS next Monday.

Very strange as the timetable is based around Appleby.
Saturday nights it stables at Appleby Northeast.

I think it’s probably best to leave the Covid discussion to the Covid section as much as we can from here. It’s not worth getting into an argument about because it’s basically how this company have chosen to do things.
Please be respectful from here on and try to post constructively. Thanks everyone.

Apparently some of the HST Trailers for this are going into the paint shop this week.

Given that the set is due to be released on Monday, I’d rather hope they were already in…

Ah! I saw a photo literally yesterday on twitter of one being shunted into the paint shop. Hopefully that was from a few days previously then!

Nope, being painted as we speak. Some vehicles are complete, some aren't yet. But never doubt the work of the Arlington paintshop! Photo on Flickr from Monday. And yes, I did notice the similarity in paint shades of green, It isn't GWR Green but seems to appear that way in certain light conditions - it is a lot lighter.

Fair enough!
I am not sold on that colour I'm afraid. Hope it looks better once glossed and lined out!

Looks a bit like one of the more recent Great Western Liveries, I was hoping that it would have been IC Blue/White.

It is pretty much as it is, GWR Green with a Grand Central style stripe containing the Saphos logo in the middle (GNER Style), though at least the interior isn't as gaudy as the Blue Pullman, being ex GWR TF / TRFB / TGF's (TGS converted to First Class). I'm still surprised that doors don't have to be a contrasting colour on stock like this though.

Isn't the interior of the Blue Pullman basically ex-GWR first-class as well, apart from the carpets and curtains?

It is, but that carpet (in my opinion) is awful and clashes with the bright sky blue of the walls - the less said about the nightclub discobar the better too. I'm all for the revival of some design features from the 70s, but that carpet has the style of a 70s dentist waiting room. And before you ask, Yes, my dentist had a similar style of carpet, in a similar beige / brown, in their thankfully now demolished building (It's funny how childhood memories work and what you remember!).

I thought this was one of those fake TV drama liveries at first, it's a fine effort but IMO struggles with the nose in particular - having those bodyside stripes droop at the last moment looks a bit awkward, distorted by the shape of the corner. The bodyside strip doesn't quite align with the tip of the nose either which seems surprising - as a fan of the Blue Pullman livery I'm somewhat disappointed tbh.

The "droop" slightly echoes the old Midland Mainline (remember them?) "Bambi" livery

Rather like the livery, looks far smarter than the original graphics in my opinion - just feel the silver bodyside band is a tad too thick. Still, quite pleasing to my eye!

The shade of green is nicer than the GWR shade (which is too dark), but I'm not sure why the silver stripe doesn't go over the cab doors and luggage van doors on the power car. You'd hope drivers wouldn't need contrasting coloured doors...
