The plan was originally to have them across to Northern by now, plan B was for the Dec 21 timetable change however that is now looking unlikely.
Newton Heath is the expected home, with some being used on the Clitheroe run to push the 3 car 150s across to the Penistone line.

Are EMR actually using there 156s and if not why not release them for refurb for Northern. As i said a check on RTT the other day said non of the 156 4xx were in use.

EMR allocations aren’t on RTT, so it’s not surprising they don’t show.

EMR don't have RTT set up to show unit workings (though I believe they're working on it) - yes, they're all in traffic at the moment and there are still numerous short forms and cancellations.

All depends on WMR getting their 196s in but that is proving far from a quick job it seems.

Northern use Train FX for their preferred choice of apparatus. So I assume the units from EMR will be converted to this? I understand the ones that came from Anglia already have this system?

They are in service, I'm on a pair of them. Unfortunately said pair are on a Liverpool-Norwich...

The alternative would probably be a cancellation. Now that would be ridiculous if there were a pair of 156’s available.
Of course, but the fact that these things are happening regularly despite the much reduced timetable is very poor.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, EMR train formations aren't on RTT yet.

Perhaps relevant, but I've seen several reports of 2-car 158s on Northern's Leeds - Carlisle service, with passengers being left behind at quite remote stations (e.g. Dent and Garsdale)! Clearly they could use extra 156s. What trains is Northern short of at the moment, given there's a reduced service on many lines?

I wonder what work is required to "Northernise" them and if the 9xx numbered ones will regain there original numbers.
Well I'm under the impression that they're the same as Northern's current units, so presumably just an interior refresh and an external repaint. Since they were renumbered due to them not working with the EMR units (I can't remember if it was just the differing PIS systems or something more), they'll probably regain the 4XX series.

Presumably either the CAF Fleet or the (slowly entering service) 769s?

As far as I'm aware of, it was down to the Ex GA Units utilising the Train FX system and this being incompatible with that fitted to the native EMR fleet (Eg, PIS systems not talking to each other, and issues with the toilet alarms not talking to each other).

Northern need to replace the 10 153s there still using by Dec 31st.
I hear overcrowding on the S and C may have been due to a £1 a ticket promotion with no strengthening of trains or services.
Northern did find resurces to hand out 1000s of free ice creams in leeds centre. Perhaps they should hand them out on hot days when the 158 air con gives up.
Ive been of the.opinion for many years that even if you gave them 100 more units they would still have short formed trains. Successive 9sloppy managments

Will they be modified when they move to Northern?
According to the discussions above, it’s the ex-EMT units (staying with EMR for now?) that are different to ex-GA and Northern units.

All (different) TrainFX installations as far as I know, which admittedly may not be all that far!

Even though I believe this is correct, it’s confusing because the EMT and Northern PISes are identical (TrainFX) whereas the ex GA one is similar to what was fitted to 315s, so you’d think it was the ex GA ones that were the odd ones out

No, the opposite. The ex Greater Anglia sets have class 170 PIS systems installed at the moment. Both Northern and EMR are standardising on TrainFX eventually, unfortunately.
