I will stay in South America and make a total guess at Argentina
Although Gabriela Sabatini won the US Open in 1990, Argentinian isn't the correct answer.

Clue: The person whose original nationality we're still looking for (before she became a naturalised American that is) was an eight times US Open singles champion.

Not correct since (unlike the men's competition) I don't believe there's ever been a Swedish women's winner of the US Open, however, geographically speaking, you're not a million miles away from the right answer! ;)

Norwegian?
Game, set and match! We have a winner. <:D

Molla Bjurstedt (a.k.a. Molla Mallory) was eight times winner of the US Open, in 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1920, 1921, 1922 and 1926.

Was also US Open finalist in 1923 and 1924 and Wimbledon singles finalist in 1922.

Born in Norway before becoming a naturalised American following her marriage in 1920.

@Loppylugs, your opportunity to serve a new question.

Thanks @Mcr Warrior.

Sticking to a sporting theme, please name the three football clubs which have won both the Amateur Cup and the FA Cup.

Bonus point if you know what was a unique event concerning one of these sides in the Amateur Cup Final.

I know Wimbledon (as was) won the Amateur Cup in the 1960s, and of course the FA Cup in 1988.

Are the two other clubs current league clubs, may I ask (I'm guessing not)?

Manchester United? and bonus being George best won them both in the same season? (Could be totally off the mark here)

I vaguely remember when Wimbledon won the FA Cup reading that they were only the second team to win both the amateur and professional cup, the other team being one associated with a public school, but I can't remember which one. Now desperately trying to recall first time FA cup winners since then who may be the third team.

Wimbledon is the only correct answer so far (1963 & 1988). They are also involved in the unique event. The other two do go much further back.

How about the Royal Engineers? They were big in sport back in the day?
Yes indeed, won the FA Cup in 1875, then the Amateur Cup in 1908 choosing not to go professional in the 1880's along with most of the clubs we know today. Incidentally @Spamcan81, Middlesbrough won the Amateur Cup twice in the 1890's, when they reverted from professionalism to amateurism for 10 years. One more to find.

Old Carthusians it is. Formed by former pupils of Charterhouse school in Godalming, Surrey. Won the FA Cup in 1881 and the Amateur Cup in 1894 and 1897.

We have a three-way tie between @perryman, @Spamcan81 and @Gloster. If any of you can solve or get close to the unique event involving Wimbledon's victory in 1963, then you have the floor. Further clue later if necessary.
