Well, yes, if you take a broad meaning of Lowland (I was going to say Central Scotland), but there is still another (military) point to find.

Were they all named after Fusiliers?
(not very up on this aspect of military stuff to be honest)

No, but there is a clue in the names of three of them, if you have a bit of military knowledge.

I won’t let this one run too long, as D6130 has already got most of the answer, and will reveal the final detail tomorrow lunchtime if nobody gets it first.

Basically, yes. The four regiments were all territorial ones based in central Scotland: three of them included the word Yeomanry in their title. D6130 got most of the answer, so gets to set the next question.

I'm happy to let @D1537 set the next one, as my WiFi connection here in Italy is very erratic and I may not be able to post for a week or more.

Sorry for the delay - been away for the weekend.

Which locomotive spent 27 months under repair in Crewe Works after accident damage, despite the fact that its life-expired classmates were being withdrawn while it was there?

I’m thinking a class 47 but I’m not sure which one. 47522 maybe?

Not 522, though that one was indeed repaired from severe damage in 1982 after the Forteviot accident, though it spent "only" just over a year in Crewe.

OK. Going on the clues that you’ve left I think it’s between a 31 and a 47?
I’m going to spin (and possibly win) with 47457..?

Much closer. Clue - it was hauling a sleeper train when it sustained its accident damage in a quite notorious incident.

I think it was 47452 that was damaged at Morpeth then?

And that's correct! Entered Crewe Works in July 84 and emerged in October 86. Apparently the "we've spent X amount on it already, we can't scrap it now" idea set in, and it ended up costing round £250,000. Being a 47/4, it was quite funny the number of bashers that turned up for its first workings because of course anyone who'd taken up the hobby in the last 2+ years would have needed it. It then lasted less than 5 years, being withdrawn in August 1991.

Interesting stuff. I managed at least a couple of runs behind it in 1988 and I can’t remember but did it have flush headcodes at both ends?

I’m going to be out for the evening so I’ll declare open floor this time.

Sticking with Duffs...

Five Class 47s were named 'City of XXX', either officially or unofficially. Which five cities?

Bonus points for knowing the numbers, in the event of a tie.

Sorry it's another 47 themed question(!) but to try and keep things moving...

There was only one class 47/7 used in the class 57 rebuild program. Which one was it, and what was it's new number?

Flush at No.1 end only - No.2 end wasn't actually that badly damaged.
