Most other countries have faith in the vaccines (even Australia) and are removing regulations like this as the vaccine rate allows. We, on the other hand, are fretting about 3rd doses.

That's a promising sign, hopefully it starts to percolate through to the rest of Europe in short order..

It could be worse, countries like France and Italy still have mask mandates as well as vaccine passports almost everywhere.

I haven't read up about it much, but supposing it is true that immunity from vaccines wanes after 6-9 months: then as the vulnerable in the UK were vaccinated between January to March 2021, now is the right time to "fret about 3rd doses". The vulnerable in Scandinavia and Australia were on average vaccinated several months later so if they want to give people a 3rd dose it would happen later on.

Since masks are not required in England, is there a particular reason why airlines still make them compulsory on domestic flights within England?

Rather than take this thread of topic, I have responded to the issue of the 3rd doses over on the Vaccine Deployment thread.

Apparently to make people 'feel safe', presumably as the BBC have been spoon-feeding people the incorrect assertion that they actually do anything, by doing dodgy maths on insignificant studies.

High time this policy was replicated on UK Domestic Flights so you don't have to "Drink the Bar Dry" in order not to have to wear one for most of the flight.
The airlines will be quite happy for passengers to carry on spending money on drinks.

Is that the issue 'feel safe' ? I have to admit I did wear a mask everytime I was in a shop or crowded area, had spares with me, as I knew the disposables were just that, and a cloth mask too, however as the months have elapsed, more so from July / August this year, I have stopped wearing them (unless I have to) as in all reality when you look at the infection figures, they do not seem to make much difference, and Countries that did not 'mandate' their use, do not seem any worse than the UK.
Had no problem at the start and even a year or so in, as no one knew one way of the other, and it made sense to 'be on the safe side'

For context, the week before last Sweden (not sure about other Nordics) lifted the requirement to get tested for COVID-19 if you become sick but are already vaccinated.

The logic is that if you get sick, it doesn't matter whether its COVID or not. The problem is that from here onwards, it's going to be very difficult to get accurate statistics on the breakthrough spread of the virus to (and via) vaccinated people in this country.

This is great news. We need other places to follow suit.

Anyone who wants additional protection (such as people who are immunocompromised or who distrust vaccines) can of course choose to wear an effective FFP2/3 mask if they wish to do so; there is no need for anyone else to wear any sort of mask (and no point wearing a flimsy loose fitting mask)
