Only in their attempts to make it apply for all 4 nations. I expect them both to stick the knife in the travel industry and implement it here just in time for Christmas holidays. There is nothing stopping them introducing such things in thier own jurisdictions, however financial support obviously won't be forthcoming. However neither have shown any desire to bring back the tourism industry we enjoyed before so I doubt the mass job losses in the sector really bothers them.

Their Achilles Heel is that most UK Flights from abroad land in England blowing a huge bypass in any restrictions they attempt to impose.

While this is true, of course England has 10 times the population and more large airports, Scottish airports, especially Edinburgh, were on the up before Covid especially for European routes and north America. However, with no genuine attempts to engage with the industry, last minute knee jerk travel restrictions whcih went beyond that of the rest of the UK and to top it all off, about 6 months of ridiculous blanket hotel quarentine rules, it's now decimated and probably won't recover for a decade or so and that's even if it's allowed to. The current status quo suits the green agenda too, so there is no desire from Holyrood to do anything constructive in this area.

I am not sure that the two doomsters will introduce restrictions on travel just before Christmas because:-
  • It would be very unpopular politically
  • People could bypass the rules by using an English airport
  • Boris Johnson is not going to get his cheque book out to subsidise the extra cost of implementing these rules in Scotland and Wales.

The military have been called in to help in areas still affected by power cuts and local councils can apply to the bellend scheme for financial help to help residents

According to the BBC, COVID-19 restrictions are going to be reviewed on a daily basis, due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

Sturgeon warns of 'rapid' rise in Omicron cases

Scotland's Covid-19 restrictions are to be reviewed on a daily basis due to a rapid increase in cases of the Omicron variant, Nicola Sturgeon has said.
A total of 99 cases of Omicron have now been detected in Scotland - a tenfold increase in the space of a week.
The first minister said she expected the number to continue to increase, and for the new variant to "account for a rising share of overall cases".
She said the emergence of Omicron was a "significant challenge for all of us".
Travel rules have already been tightened, and Ms Sturgeon said she would consider on a daily basis whether other measures - such as the extended use of Covid passports - were needed.

The overall number of Covid cases in Scotland has increased in the past week to around 2,800 new cases per day, having fallen in the previous fortnight.
The bulk of the new cases have been among people aged under 60, which Ms Sturgeon said was "encouraging" and proof of the success of booster vaccines.
The number of people in hospitals and intensive care wards with Covid has also fallen over the past week.
But Ms Sturgeon told MSPs that the emergence of the Omicron variant was an "additional and very significant cause for concern".
Cases have been reported in nine of Scotland's 14 health board areas, with fears of widespread community transmission.
Ms Sturgeon said: "I would expect to see a continued and potentially rapid rise in cases in the days ahead, and for Omicron to account for a rising share of overall cases."

The first minister also said early data suggested that Omicron was more transmissible than the currently dominant Delta variant - "perhaps significantly so" - and could be more capable of re-infecting people who have previously had Covid.
She said this had the potential to put very intense additional pressure on the health service over the winter.
The government is to review restrictions on a daily basis, with Ms Sturgeon urging people to get vaccinated and to up their compliance with existing measures.
She also said employers should ensure that all staff who can work from home are able to, saying this should continue until at least the middle of January.
She said: "Let's all pull together, do what is necessary, and get each other and the country through this winter and into what we all hope will be a better and brighter spring."

Will we see knee jerk reactions to increasing case numbers even if it doesn't lead to more hospitalisation or deaths?

In fact Im pretty sure I already know the answer...

There are already knee jerk reactions (work from home) when cases remain flat. Hospital admissions continue to trend down too. Sturgeon may point to a "rapid" rise in omincron cases, but clearly it's at the detriment of formerly delta cases. It's misleading at best. The number of omincron cases is probably hugely underestimated too, since the only way to find it is through the PCR process (of which only a percentage of labs can detect it). I think you'll find a fair chunk of the population have given up with testing, and if they do, don't bother with PCR.

As long as she does not start messing about with International Travel requirements !!

The idea her and the Welsh Leader Drakeford had about extending quarantine periods with 2 and 8 Day tests for returnees seems to have sunk without trace.

Nicola Sturgeon has already decided to go further than England's latest restrictions, with people now being urged to cancel Xmas partieshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-59599552

Nowhere in that article does it state she has asked people to cancel Christmas parties.

With what money will she be compensating the hospitality industry that relies on Christmas parties to see them through the dead months of January and February?
Seeing as how she hasn't asked anyone to cancel anything I imagine she will be providing no money.

Erm...

People in Scotland have been urged to cancel Christmas parties due to the rising number of cases of the Omicron Covid variant.

It does state Public Health Scotland has said however as I’m cynical of the media at the moment be BBC ITV/STV etc I do think this needs corrected but I doubt action would or will be taken but this is scaremongering/panic mode (media at it again)

BBC now sinking lower to the standards of GMB with these sort of headlines who knew!

It was Dr Phin of Public Health Scotland that has said this not Sturgeon (far from defending Sturgeon here) but the media needs held accountable now.

Public Health Scotland said a number of outbreaks caused by Omicron were linked to Christmas parties.
Dr Nick Phin, its Director of Public Health Science, said postponing plans would help to "protect ourselves".

Erm.

Not by Nicola Sturgeon or anyone with the power to actually enforce such things. It's the opinion of someone at Public Health Scotland. Not even Jason Leitch has asked for this.
In which case they need to be reined in (as do the BBC). Careless talk like that is what does damage to businesses.

Yes I agree. It's a total non article which the BBC has decided to put out to make it seem like we are going further in Scotland when there is nothing to suggest this, at the moment anyway. I'm sure we will get some token restriction for the sake of it in due course.

Exactly. Remember the petrol panic? There was never a fuel shortage but enough idiots fell for it which then caused a shortage.

The BBC are now attempting to row back on this, calling it an appeal, not an instruction. But the damage is now done. I haven't dared look at Sky News.

Overheard this 'reported' on the One Show just now it was phrased just as "people in Scotland being urged to cancel Christmas parties" with no context of who was saying it just like the BBC online headline. Very poor standards as expect people hearing that would assume it to be from Holyrood.

What damage ?

People have been cancelling Xmas parties left, right and centre in England without being urged to by anyone.*

At the end of the day, no one is going to decide whether to cancel or not based on urging by Sturgeon, the BBC or a bloke down the pub called Nigel.

* The 'hospitality industry' might like to remember this too.
