This is not correct. Scanning a QR code into the TousAntiCovid app, or indeed any other app, does not change it in any way.

The app may not display an expiry date, nor may it show any error after the expiry date passes. It may even continue to work in France, if their validation app (like Ireland's) is programmed to ignore expiry dates.

The underlying QR code will still contain the expiry date, and it will not work with a validation app that checks the expiry date, such as any of the UK ones.

I've since checked this, and the English covid status checker app was displaying an expiry date of roughly a year since I scanned my Scottish acquired vaccine QR code into TousAntiCovid, which seems a signifiant upgrade on the expiry dates offered by the various NHS apps.

As far as I'm aware, Scottish QR codes inherently have a 12 month validity period. English are 1 month, Northern Irish are 3 months. No clue about Wales.

A few in our group in Edinburgh got turned away from a venue because the NHS app was down and they literally couldn't access their health records. Doormen were just like "you should've sorted this out before you came here" as if we have magical control over the government app. Presumably they relented later on, because we just headed to another venue (who were letting people in with test, track and trace) and as we turned back we saw a growing queue and huddle around the doors.

The shakey app (we were using the English one) is an overzealous bouncer's dream, although I always use a PDF anyway, which gets you round that hurdle.

Until, like in Ireland, some premises decide to refuse vaccine passports that aren't displayed on a smartphone.

(Which makes absolutely no sense - especially in Ireland, as the app is just a wallet which you need to scan the QR code into from the PDF)

Yes, there's always this too... so frustrating. I've never had any bad experiences with club bouncers but I've seen them act questionably...

That is a bizarre attitude from the bouncer/venue. I would write a complaint if I were you, and say that they have lost your future patronage. Presumably they are already struggling for custom due to this damn scheme anyway.

I'll note that I will print out a copy then if I ever need to go to an event that has cost me money.

And they will struggle for more considering Miss Sturgeon announced today that hospitality venues need to reintroduce distancing from December 27th.

Now Sturgeon has closed night clubs for three weeks. So much for vaccine passports working!

Considering some venues make 10% of their annual profit in the Christmas/New Year week, that is devastating for them.

This means that vaccine passports were a failure. Not that she’d care to admit it of course.

It also knocks out Re-Freshers' Week, which is another thing clubs try to do in January. They're not scheduled to reopen until the 17th.

Who wants to bet that she says 3 weeks but it end up being a lot longer before nightclubs can reopen.

It's not going to be 3 weeks and even if they open up in 3 weeks there will be so many caveats it won't be a nightclub in any true sense of the word.

Can anyone think of a rule that was abolished at the first three week review? I can't think of any.

I can't either. Even the takeaway from a hatch rule lasted more than the minimum 3 weeks. And that seemed like a rule brought in purely to be relaxed quickly so it could be claimed "Scottish covid rules are eased".

The takeaway from a hatch rule was a peevish act designed to show everybody that Nicola was still boss, in spite of the press pointing out that lots of people were going out to work rather than staying home and banging pots like in lockdown 1. No way was it ever only going to last 3 weeks

From 17•JNR•22, vaccine certs will no longer be accepted if the 2nd dose was more than 4 months ago. The attendance cap on outdoor events will be removed, but at least 50% of attendees (up from 20%) will need to have CovidPasses inspected.

And I see it’s going to be extended to other venues too. Well, it’s being “considered” which no doubt means it will be. Scientific basis for it…

Oh woohoo, I've not had my booster.

So basically ScotGov is forcing people to get their booster now? It might sound dramatic but it definitely seems a subtle way of making people do so.

And another 'conspiracy theory' comes to pass.

It‘s simply nothing more than control freakery. The mission creep is worrying and, as you say, this was laughed off as a conspiracy theory.

I fear this will be rather damaging for business. Another step towards a “papers please” Scotland.

I guess the solution is simple for me, don't visit Scotland. I was there in October, visiting family and even then it was much less pleasant than England because of its more draconian restriction (even then). The Scottish government are killing Scottish businesses and their is only so long that people will accept it is all Westminster's fault. Considering the different approaches, England's and Scotland's infection rates are about the same most of the time. Not enough variation to claim the hard line in Scotland is more successful anyway.

Quite honestly I won’t holiday in Scotland due to all this. Due to the medical issues I am still suffering from the first dose, I can’t be fully vaccinated and I really cannot be bothered with the hassle of registering a lateral flow test just to go to a pub/restaurant/cafe etc. I’ll take my custom south of the wall.

In theory there are medical exemptions to the passports but the criteria is so incredibly narrow that unless you have suffered anaphylaxis or severe, permanent disability, then it’s a guaranteed rejection. Neurological and cardiac problems don’t cut the mustard it seems…

I think it is particularly disgraceful that, given the issues you've reported having following your first vaccination, that you're not *automatically* eligible for an medical exemption. It seems you should be a particularly clear-cut case if ever there was one. This is very, very wrong.

I had a very long discussion with them on the phone. I have appealed it but expect it to go nowhere. Even conditions like myocarditis don’t qualify for it.

I was told that I will “probably be okay” with further vaccination and that if complications arose to see my doctor. That was it. It’s a shambles.

What a disgusting way to treat someone. Truly appalling.

And some people still think this is all about people's health?
