Which ticket format is the one you prefer to use while travelling?

  • Paper ticket from booking office/ticket machine

  • Paper ticket printed on A4 at home

  • Phone app

  • Smartcard, e.g. "The Key" or similar (like Transport for London Oyster card)

Anything you put in your pocket, whether it be CCST tickets, credit cards or cash, can potentially be accessed and stolen by pickpockets.
The difference is that I know who exactly who has access to my paper ticket, ie me and it would be my own stupid fault if I lost it or had it stolen. You don't know who has access to your e-ticket and the card details you used to pay for it.

Never used any kind of ticket on a phone simply because I might lose the charge and get "gripped" or even forget my phone altogether (I don't use it constantly), whereas my wallet with a paper ticket in is always in my pocket.

However I was watching "Countdown" of all things where a contestant who is a train conductor told us that he always carries a pair of chargers for those whose phones need recharging on the journey. I found this a stunning piece of thoughtfulness and initiative, unless of course his employer takes a dim view of this and would much rather he charges the passenger rather than the phone!

I suspect he doesn't carry them to be nice, but rather to catch out people who say "me battery's dead innit mate" when in fact it isn't and they have simply not bought a ticket and never had any intention of it.

Of course the results of this poll will be slightly skewed by the fact it's taking place online and you have to have some degree of tech knowledge to log on and vote. If you held a similar poll on the high street the majority in favour of paper tickets over e-tickets would be even larger!
I highly doubt it.

There’s no love for paper tickets in London - Oyster and contactless have king dominated.

The passengers using LNER wouldn’t agree either. Observe a ticket check on one of their trains and you’ll see 80%+ use e-tickets.

I wish that you could have listened to the Sliced.Bread Radio 4 programme this morning that involved a total figure of £675,000 scammed from a couple in North Yorkshire from two banks over a longish period of time where the monies were all refunded by the banks, as the banks have a duty of care to their customer and despite regular withdrawals of large sums of money that bore no relation to the previous year's banking history, not once did the banks contact their customer. The scammer was supposedly a senior Fraud Squad officer carrying out a major investigation.
Sadly fraudulent activity has always happened and always will do. The methods used by fraudsters do change over time.

The basic premise of your poll is flawed, what not let someone who knows what they’re talking about pose the questions

In other words you've not got the answer you wanted so you're questioning the validity of the poll.

Out of interest, did you vote to remain in the EU back in 2016? ;)
Not all all but How can someone that doesn’t appear to have the first clue on the subject set the poll that would be like having Boris Johnson for PM
