Thanks Gents, more pre-order excitement today as the final piece in the Caledonian Sleeper jigsaw arrived from Hornby. I've also ordered a Scotrail Mk2 rake. I would have preferred a DMU, but it was substantially cheaper to just order 3 Mk2's to run with a 67 as per the Fife Circle instead and I can just invoke Rule 1.

Those are both very nice liveries and suit the coaches well.

Having originally sold my Grantrail Ruston 48DS that I'd heavily customised & weathered back in December 2021, I've succumbed to the bug & ordered a John Dewar example. I MUST LEARN TO KEEP THIS ONE! 8-)

Certainly didn't pay the £100 price Hornby are now asking for new ones & got a discount (sub £75). Perfect for my tiny layouts I love building.

That’s just the nicest thing ever. Does it run well with such a small wheelbase?

They have all wheel pickup on the loco. The match wagon also has pickups on the wheels with an electrical pin connector between the two, so effectively 8 wheel contact for a miniscule loco.

So if you're running electrofrog points they glide over them: Or at least the previous one I had did. They're pretty good runners without the wagon too.

Really good use of a match truck then. Very impressive little model.

This is my new addition this week. Another 33 but in Dutch livery this time.
I had the lads over last night for a bit of loco detailing session where we did a bit of work to my one (nearest), plus my friend George’s one (furthest away and now featuring ploughs):

Quite a nice little line up and one of them is away being repaired at the moment (Paul’s triple grey one)!

The two clean ones are being weathered this week too.

Now that looks very nice. The tiny 48s are just perfect for small layouts, and to get all you need to run an engine into such a small model is really clever on Hornby's part. Looking forward to seeing it on your layouts!

Very nice indeed. There's something about the 33s I quite like - I'm not sure what it is though. I must say, the Dutch livery wasn't my favourite before but it's growing on me...

Very nice! How do you feel about the truck being permanently attached? Is that an inconvenience?

I don't have much use for small locos, even my Bachmann 09 cannot shunt all of my rakes, it just wheel slips! My haulage kings are the Hattons 66 & Dapol 68.

I do like a line of matching loco's though @Cowley

They have some advantages- they are usually cheaper and great for the space conscious. They also some of the most common types of loco’s, so most people can find an excuse for them on their layouts.

I think you should try one, for working a suitably diminutive train :)

Haha, couldn't put it out on the main line! Maybe I need a tiny industrial railway cut off from the main line. I doubt it could haul a single loaded stone hopper wagon

The match wagon can be removed. There's a plastic connecting bar that slots into the coupling slots on the loco/wagon. Same with the electrical connection. I have no problem with the wagon as even combined it's shorter than a Bachmann 03/Hornby 08!!

It doesn’t have to be that small, a Peckett or Hunslet sized loco would be a bit more useful.

Oh wow! I didn’t realise just how small they were. That’s a good comparison for some perspective.

Could you use one for shunt release at the terminus?

Haven't been really keeping up to date with the stuff i've been acquiring as I keep forgetting about the forums, to the point where trying to share a pic of every single thing I've gotten since my last post will just be too much of a burden, so instead I'll just show what I consider to be my most anticipated acquisitions below :)

(Note that my layout is still not even constructed yet lol)

As mentioned before, these are just what I consider to be ones that I've been anticipating most since the beginning of this year, there have been many other purchases too which you can see on my Twitter feed.

I'm in the same boat, keep acquiring stock but so far nowhere to run them. In fact I'd forbidden myself from buying anything until I've at least begun construction on a layout!

Speaking of which I've just browsed Ebay for the first time in months, and those APT-E sets look amazing... they are a bit pricey though, and wouldn't be suitable for the size of layout I have space for. Those buffered HST power cars also look fantastic... I'd love a pair of Swallow-liveried ones, or just a dummy one to run with a 91! Of course the space issue rears its head again there.

Yea, I've tried that several times yet my rolling stock collection continues to grow

Some really nice purchases there. I was hoping they would do a DRS DBSO while they were at it, although I'm not sure that NR one looks quite right at the front end, could just be me though. Love the HST powercars.

The APT-E in fictional livery was going fairly cheap at a few suppliers the other week, so if you want one, those are the ones to get and not off Ebay unless you are desperate. I think the Swallow HST DVT is a good value purchase at £84, there's nothing to stop you having an older/cheaper/less-detailed powercar on the opposite end...

Those DBSOs are damn expensive, more than many locos!

The 68 is an outstanding loco, can haul serious loads

I have 2 HSTs, I find them a tad mediocre!

What's the APT like?

You're not the only person to mention the shape of the front end, personally it looks absolutely fine from where I'm looking, certainly beats those kitbashed ones which used the old Lima tooling.

Yeah I will agree it is definitely expensive, but you musn't forget that this has DCC onboard, so essentially the price covers for the decoder inside of which (which I have no clue what it is) Personally I've been waiting for an RTR DBSO model for years now, the kit versions are just too much of a task for me as it's not my thing

The 68 is probably one of the best Dapol models I currently have, weighs an incredible amount and I'm in love with the sheer amount of detail on it too.

That Network Rail HST did not get off to a promising start, paid quite a sum of money for it and the lights in the powered unit were dead, upon opening the body one of the wires that goes into this harness or whatever was snapped which meant I had to very carefully solder it back on. The quality control on it was pretty poor and I was quite disappointed, has been fitted with TTS in both ends though.

As for the APT, it's just absolutely gorgeous, Rapido have done wonders with it and I just love the attention to detail and the fact it just looks like a spaceship from the 70s! (is also factory sound fitted too) it's probably my second most expensive model in my collection next to my Azuma 800, but I can definitely say it's definitely better value for money

My only big gripe with this is that coupling up is like trying to do surgery, it's an incredibly fiddly and delicate job, taking them apart is no easy task either (although the booklet does express that you really shouldn't couple and uncouple it up frequently) I did actually break one of the tension springs whilst trying to uncouple one of the Power Cars, thankfully Rapido have clearly thought of that and provided spares!

I can see that the new Cally Sleeper Liveried MK2E BUOs are out, it's on my wishlist atm, gotta be honest and say from the pics I've seen of it the green still is not dark enough but it's nowhere near as bad as an attempt on their 92s where the blue was completely incorrect shade.

It isn't easy to stick to... I recently came into a bit of extra cash so decided to pre-order an Accurascale 31 with sound... the fact that it won't arrive for a while at least means I won't feel guilty about the purchase by the time it gets here!

Not an "acquisition" as such, but a donation from a friend who's found out I'm into model raillways. Old 1980s Hornby Class 110 Calder DMU that was in a dodgy state.

Pictures are after I've detailed, improved & refurbed the motor. Trailer has no corridor connection so a replacement is en route & weathering will come!

That's a lovely unit, and nice work on the detailing too!
I'm keeping my eyes open for a blue/grey one, but the all blue ones seem far more common.

Nice! I do plan to pick up 9497 at some point soon as it's a vehicle I might have had a small hand in producing (Hornby were originally due to produce a BUO by printing the guards van stuff on the side of a Mk2 TSO until I spoke to a few contacts and to Mr K and pointed him in the direction of this one). Ok, so it's not your prototypical BUO for your Euston services, than the BSO for the Fort William service, but at least it's a factually correct and faithful reproduction of a Caledonian Sleeper Mk2 than the originally proposed hotchpotch.
