Hi,

I was wondering. What is the best price from Hertford North Station to Central London(Leicester Square) making use of underground, buses and the train from Hertford North?

Can I use an Oyster card for the whole journey and how much would it be off-peak?

Oyster cards are not valid at Hertford North.
An off-peak day Travelcard is valid for trains arriving at London Terminals at or after 10:00. It is unrestricted on the return portion (restrictions sourced from National Rail). This would cost £17.00. This will give unlimited travel within London Zones 1-6.

Alternatively, you could purchase a cheap day return from Hertford-London Terminals. This is valid for trains arriving at Kings Cross, Old Street or Moorgate at or after 1000. Again the return portion is unrestricted. You would then need to use Oyster Kings Cross-Leicester Square and return, which on the Underground would cost £1.90 each way.

Or you could buy the return to Finsbury Park and change onto the Underground there. Same price on Oyster but cheaper on the National Rail (£10 vs £10.50). Piccadilly line stops at Finsbury Park as well as Kings Cross and Leicester Square, plus the distance to walk at Finsbury Park is probably shorter than at Kings Cross.

The best suggestion I have would be to buy an off-peak day return from Hertford North to Crews Hill (£5) plus a Z1-6 off-peak Travelcard (£8). (But I believe your train would have to call at Crews Hill for that option to be valid.)

This split is very well known to passengers and staff at Hertford North. But its worth noting a small restriction on the split at Crews Hill, the Off peak day return is vaid on the 0917 out of Hertford North, but as that gets to Crews Hill at 0929 the Z1-6 off peak travelcard is not valid on that train, so you need to get the next train from Hertford, wait for the next train at Crews Hill or break the validity rule, which I would not condone.

Just about every train (apart from some in the peaks maybe, and some very early/late ones) call there on the route from Hertford North so I wouldn't worry about that! :)
From around 5pm to 8pm, alternate northbound trains skip Crews Hill - about a dozen in total. So between those times, the service at Crews Hill is about every half hour - compared to the normal off-peak frequency of every 20 mins.

So I would worry about that...

Or the OP could just use the 09:32 which as it calls all stations to London Moorgate using the above tickets is valid seeing as the train stops at Crews Hill.

Besides I doubt such a offering would be offered were it not valid, the regular staff in the booking office would easily be able sell you the best tickets as they know all the cheap tickets.
