Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

I don't know much about ticketing, but would it have worked better as two separate transactions. Manchester to Sheffield as one transaction, Sheffield to London as another ? Letting the TOC know that you are split ticketing may not be good policy.

    Lynton and Barnstaple TWAO

If the L and B had the money available today, would they be able to extend to Parracombe. Is the TWAO in place ? and if not when is it expected ?. For the moment they are unable to reach Blackmoor Gate, because the Devon County Council have plans to build a roundabout just to the north over the...

Connectivity along the South Coast - is a new Express service needed?

I remember in the early 1960's Brighton had 4 long distance trains, Manchester, Plymouth, Cardiff and Bournemouth. All had a stream engine on them which is why I remember. There was one train a day to Bournemouth, setting off mid morning, and coming back mid afternoon. It was withdrawn when...

    Short line at Salisbury

I travel a lot between Salisbury and Exeter, and would like to know what the short branch is to the north of the four track section, west of Salisbury station. It heads off Eastbound, over a tall victorian brick arch bridge, and then disappears . There is an electrical sub station to the north...

ScotRail request stop buttons at stations

If Scotrail are going to tighten up the timetable to incorporate the faster running speeds, then something has been gained. If they continue to use the existing timetable, then what has been gained ? Operating costs have increased to run the technology, so the likelihood of station closures is...

ScotRail request stop buttons at stations

This equipment doesn't solve any problems. Down here in Devon we have the same type of railway. Barnstaple to Exeter St. Davids Lots of unstaffed small stations which are request stops. Arm out to stop the train, tell the ticket checker if you want the train to stop. If the driver knows in...

    Camden Highline - planning application

There was an interesting program which talked about the Camden highline. It was on BBC World Service. Tuesday 02nd August at 04.32 and titled "In the studio" . Endless stream of words which have no real meaning. It seems that this firm have done this kind of thing abroad, especially in the USA...
