Most exotic licence plate personally spotted on UK road

A few weeks ago I was behind a Polish lorry hauling a Kazakh trailer on the M62.

    Former British car marque revivals.

I could see some potential for the likes of Austin Healey or Triumph with a modern take on the classic British sports car, be it electric or internal combustion powered, but I'm not convinced how much mass market appeal they'd actually have. I'm very curious to see how things go with the MG...

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

As a more recent example, how about the Wright StreetAir - with only the demonstrator and 6 production models produced. https://www.flickr.com/photos/61008783@N06/37659766801/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/east_lancs/36559294324

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

That's what it did when the 60 was around, just using two buses rather than one to make it half hourly. Even being hourly would have been a waste of time for the 60 - I think the most passengers I ever carried on it was three, with most runs I drove on it having none at all.

Birmingham Tram and Lorry collide - 7 Feb 2024

That's a rather unnecessary sweeping generalisation.

    Stop-Start Technology on Buses

On the other hand, my current car with stop start is 9 years old and has it's original battery with no signs of needing replacement any time soon, while my previous car without stop start needed a new battery at 6 years old. I would think it's a lot more down to the usage profile of the car...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Used to be even more than that when it was running with single decks pre 2009 - during the peaks it would fairly regularly have up to 7 buses running together. At one point, the 22 was timetabled at every 2 minutes during the evening peak.

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

401-415 can be hit or miss, in my experience - they can be fairly comfortable as a passenger depending on what routes they're allocated to, and as a driver some of them actually drove fairly well, though the cab is a bit cramped. 426-437 are hateful things and belong in a scrapyard.

Most exotic licence plate personally spotted on UK road

For a few years, I used to see a Volvo from Colorado in Edinburgh for a few months in the summer. There was also a couple of Russian cars that would turn up most years during August, a Land Rover Defender and an Audi A6, both from Moscow.

    Buses Driving Through Floodwater

Exhaust level doesn't matter for driving through water, and the location of the intake within the engine bay at the rear of the bus means it's very unlikely to get any significant amount of water in while traveling forward. If the intake was low enough* to cause the engine to flood in a...

Mainly Unattended freight roro coastal ferries as alternative to freight on railways?

As well as the lower cruising speed, there's also the time taken to load and unload the trailers at each end - most ports require trailers to be dropped at least 60-90 minutes before departure, and for arrivals at some of the ports I go to it can sometimes be over 3 hours from the ferry arriving...

AI (Artificial Intelligence) graphics / photo generators

One of the biggest problems with these AI image generators is the source material that's used to train them - a significant amount of it, if not the majority, is stolen artwork scraped from various sites like DeviantArt without the knowledge or consent of the original authors.

    Cameras instead of mirrors

The camera mirrors I've experienced so far on buses and HGVs have all been a bit crap. They have a few big issues, like LED headlights on other vehicles strobing on the screens and not being able to deal with having both light and dark areas on the screen at the same time meaning parts of the...

Still preserved. Since the change of management, they have little interest in using any of them but also won't sell them. I know a couple of people who have made enquiries and been told they aren't for sale.

The really long ones are just for showing off, very much a style over substance thing.
