RTT says EST 9114 left STP at 0824 this morning and Eurostar's app said it arrived at Brussels at 1121 which is 1h57.

Fair point although it seemed to be a 1648 (not a 648) which is perhaps some sort of improved version? It had a small but comfortable First section with leather/ish seats, 2-1 seating and wooden tables. Certainly no less comfortable than a Voyager, or a 180.

I did Wernigerode - Halle - Berlin last week, ticket booked three weeks in advance was €64 for First Class including 2 seat reservations on the ICE, and my daughter travelled for free. I thought less than £55 was very reasonable for 2h45 on trains compared to say the price for two of us to go...

Eurostar have decided - and they are correct - that there is far more money to be made from selling seats at last minute for sky high prices, because the vast majority of passengers buying those tickets at such short notice will essentially be travelling for emergencies (business or personal)...

Just to be clear - I am no stranger to day trips - as an adult I can recall multiple ones to Paris (by train), Frankfurt (by air), Geneva (by air), Turin (by air), Barcelona (by air) and even New York (strictly speaking less than 24 hours but I did fly Concorde so I thought I'd mention it ;) )...

Yes that’s what I mean…hurrying people through security (perhaps with a dedicated lane), holding the London departure etc. rather than making people wait for the next train (which could after all be the following day.) If you were being smart about it you’d allocate all Amsterdam - London...

Interesting. Are they going to facilitate that 45 minute connection and/or guarantee it in some way? It could be quite an interesting model for future inbound to the UK services if they can come up with something robust.

Hopefully they will offer a through fare, rather than just the two separate fares added together (which normally makes it outrageously expensive).
