    Caledonian Sleeper

We always go for seat 11B and 11C in the seating coach. Row 11 seats have fixed tables which as you say means there is a little more room. Also you are furthest away from the WC with it's constant 'toilet door is opening' , 'toilet door is closing', 'toilet door is locked' announcements routine.

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

I see Ripley based Derbyshire Community Transport have taken over a number of local DCC routes from Monday 2nd October. They've also acquired two buses from Littles who were the former operator. Source : bustimes.org

What is the biggest class of locomotive in the UK that did not have a single member survive into preservation?

There was an original Mirrlees JVS12T block at European Diesels in Lincolnshire but unfortunately it was disposed of a while ago. Recreating a Class 30 was considered for a while but it would have been a major engineering project,.

Carstairs Splitting / Joining services in the BR Era

It was dual braked and dual heat as you describe. SC21269 was the regular BCK from memory.

What happened to all the 31's?

Sounds good to me. A Brush 2 with a big load and the right driver is just what I like.

What happened to all the 31's?

Brush Type 2’s were built like battleships by comparison with Sulzer Type 2’s. Very heavy construction. They were very much mid 1950’s technology and diesel loco design was rapidly evolving at the time. Production at Loughborough ran from 1957-1962 and by the time the last ones were built they...

What happened to all the 31's?

Class 31 maintenance costs were significantly lower than alternative designs. As the requirement for Type 2 locos reduced then 31’s were retained and replaced the more modern and more numerous Class 25’s. The fact that 31’s could be fitted with ETH for passenger and mail traffic made them more...

    Line of Duty finale

I thought it was a good ending to the series. Tommy Hunter was the head man and since he was disposed off then it's all split into disparate groups and Buckells was simply last man standing rather than a criminal mastermind. The banality of evil indeed. There was a big clue earlier in the...

Your favourite loco(s) aka Your Machine.

31441 for me. My favourite 31 and always a solid performer for me.

    What train encapulates your childhood?

For me it was Class 45/1's with air-conditioned Mark 2 stock and a Mark 1 buffet car on the Sheffield - St Pancras via Nottingham services. Occasional Class 47/4 substitute.

    What's your favourite diesel train?

For me it's class 31s. Of the more modern traction I do find class 68s impressive.

Personal favorite train from the 2010s....

Class 68's for me. When matched up with refurbished / power door fitted Mark 3's they made for an excellent train to travel in.

What is your favourite station in the UK?

Alfreton as it is my local station now. Other than that I've always liked York, Carlisle and Norwich.

How would you Rate your Local Station?

My Local : Alfreton (ALF) Setting : About a mile North of the town centre with Trent Barton buses every 15 minutes plus an hourly local service. (7/10) Architecture : 1970's chic with modular buildings which have flat roofs. Looking tired now. Due to be replaced. (5/10) Services: 1 tph...

    East Midlands Franchise 2019-

As an alternative solution could the service be split at Manchester Piccadilly instead ? Most of the delays seem to be generated in passing through the congested two track corridor across Manchester. Starting the service from the terminus part of the station eliminates that and TPE can provide...
