Out of all rolling stock existing today, which do you think will survive the longest?

That's essentially what I thought too. Perhaps they'll end up cascaded to the Penistone line, which is currently served almost exclusively by class 150s.

    Barnsley-Settle-Carlisle Steam circa. April/May 1993

Thanks very much indeed. I'll have a look at your suggestions!

    Barnsley-Settle-Carlisle Steam circa. April/May 1993

I'm trying to determine the date of a trip I took on the above route on a Saturday way back in 1993. It was a trip gifted to me. I had the tickets stored somewhere but they're now misplaced. I remember the borders of the tickets were purple instead of the usual orange. I'm trying to find...

Did you like the pacers? (The Class 140, 141, 142, 143, and the 144.)

I thought they were quite light and airy generally although could be lively at speed. I used to be able to tell where I was while attempting to sleep en-route to Uni. in Sheffield from Barnsley in the 90s just based on the noises they made going over the track. Didn't like them in rush hour...

Advice on what new car to buy.

What size car do you need? How long will you keep it for? What do you have at the moment? What is your approximate budget? Most new cars have touch screens. The Dacia Sandero was based on older Renault technology so effectively was more like a traditional car inside in terms of dashboard...

Minor things on trains which irritate you

Yes, I agree. Wonder if the 153s have 'Magic Tree' school canteen fragrance hanging in the cabs...

Minor things on trains which irritate you

The card reader is in a similarly poor position on the Northern TVMs. I'm only 5'8" and have to duck down to see the card reader. No reason why the screens and card readers shouldn't be able to pivot or slide up/down on a stanchion. Technology has improved where screens are lightweight and...

    Trivia: Mispronounced station names

Elsecar and Wombwell in Barnsley used to be pronounced 'Els-car' and 'Wooomwell' instead of 'El-see-car' and 'Wum-well' on the automated announcement years ago. I'm not sure if this is still the case as I don't take the same trains regularly these days.

    Class 153 updates.

Could it simply be that the panel was cut out to use it to repair corrosion on another unit?

We need your help: Campaign for Family Friendly Trains - Collating information on accessibility of different makes of trains

I wonder if it's possible to design trains where a section of seats can fold and swivel/pivot against the wall and wheelchair clamps be inserted into tracks in the floor by a guard. This is how the back of an ambulance worked when I transported patients in wheelchairs. This would be in...

We need your help: Campaign for Family Friendly Trains - Collating information on accessibility of different makes of trains

Isn't the problem largely as a result of pushchairs getting more 'heavy-duty' and less collapsible compared to those years ago, which were lightweight and folded into a slim profile for storage on bus luggage racks and such like? It's nice if one can wheel on and off of course, but what happens...

Lost / forgotten railcards - solution?

The easiest way is to have each railcard holder create an online account that can be accessed via any web browser. You really ought to be able to have both a physical card and an app or online version at the same time. Forgotten railcard? No problem, sign into your online account and prove it...

    Seat/Window alignment solution

I've wondered whether it would be feasible to install 'fake' internal windows in which an LED panel displays the image from a camera mounted in the external bodywork e.g. in the areas where there are door pockets on say cl. 150. I'm not sure how well they'd cope with motion blur at high speed...
