Things the younger generation wouldn’t believe when you were a kid

That reminds me of another thing. As a kid, adults were always Mr... or Mrs... That applied to neighbours, shopkeepers, friends' parents, and all the other adults I had contact with. Never would I be allowed to address an adult by their first name (apart from relatives). That would have been...

Voter ID at polling stations: Railcards are no good, so what's the alternative for students?

I've started to see a lot more publicity about this in the last couple of weeks. My local council are putting out regular social media posts, and other community organisations are re-posting them. Only problem is that not everyone uses social media or follows local councils/organisations. I...

    The Death Penalty

I'd be in the same position. Irrespective of the evidence, I would feel unable to support a guilty verdict if I knew it could lead to execution. I understand why some people support the death penalty, in some circumstances, but I do not believe that the state has the right to take a person's...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Exactly, it is a very odd way of filling the second chamber! I would not object to an outgoing PM being able to give some form of recognition but it shouldn't be a peerage. Be interesting to see Liz Truss' list, if she's brave enough to produce one!

Radical ideas to revolutionise the UK's education system

Do schools not teach Home Economics any more? When I was at school (1990s) there was a subject called Technology. This consisted of one term of Home Economics (cooking and sewing), one term of wood and metal work and one term of IT. I imagine they did it this way because all three subjects...

Do you still buy CDs? If not, when did you stop buying them?

I sold most of my CDs in the mid 2000s because I started using downloads. I then re-bought a few second hand CDs in the early 2010s, because I bought a car which only had a CD player, and at the time was doing long motorway journeys. I got rid of them when I changed the car for a newer one...

    Food prices

My family never drank PG Tips. It wasn't because we thought chimps had touched the tea, it was because we thought dressing chimps up in human clothing to make TV adverts constituted animal cruelty.

How low on fuel do you let your car get before refuelling?

I do the same, for the same reason. I normally fill up at half a tank. It's not a big hassle. When I used to do a lot more miles for work, I filled up every week when I did my supermarket shop. I'd start to feel nervous if I went below a quarter tank.

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

@kristiang85 - did you actually receive an OTP? Because, at the risk of stating the obvious, if you did then whichever account the OTP came from has possibly been compromised, at least partially.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

The bit in bold, I agree. We have a prime minister who's acted for the good of the country (when politically it would have been easier to leave it for the next government to sort out), and a leader of the opposition who has given support to the framework rather than playing political games...

The "And in other news..." thread

    Auto-correct gone wrong? :)

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

I think an SNP MP made that point last in Parliament last night. Personally I would vote for a party that proposed re-joining the single market, but I think it will be several years before anyone's brave enough to make it a manifesto commitment.

Animals* (all species, including most frightening and even pussy like) that I have been chased by (*Cows excepted)

I had a similar experience on a beach when I was little. Although I don't actually think the dog was nasty, I think it was playing. Even now, many years later, I am still not entirely comfortable around big dogs.

    Window cleaners

Yes I am. Probably the same guy. He sent me a threatening/abusive message on Facebook when I raised my dispute with Paypal.

Predict gains/losses in your local area in next GE

I wouldn't rule out some kind of security crisis involving Russia. And although we've come through this winter unscathed, next winter still brings the possibility of an energy shortage. Throw in issues with food supplies (although I wouldn't class the current issues as a crisis) and avian flu...
