New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

But I'm saying that diesel won't lead to faster delivery over battery. The infrastructure works aren't going to be significantly different and the real time constraint will be going through the planning and consultation process which will take years. Its not a case of just buying trams and...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

To be fair I didn't realised there is a diesel electric version of the city link tram which makes it more realistic. Still we're talking at least 4 or 5 years before any new line is likely to be running so battery technology is likely to continue to progress and diesel likely to become less...

New railway lines and stations for South Yorkshire

But why not battery. Battery trams are fairly common. Are there more than a couple dozen diesel trams/tram trains across the world?

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin promises "spades in ground" for tram network by 2028 if reelected

It's a common theme on here that people say a project isn't developed enough when they have no idea on the actual stage of development. Nearly 9 years from conception to construction is hardly fast so I see no reason why it couldn't happen. The funding is in place for development of the project...

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram pledges to bring "trackless trams" to Liverpool Airport, among other places

If it is like Glider then it's certainly not been tried before in Liverpool. It'll be mainly be on its own dedicated right of way, have high quality stops that are further apart than normal buses, and an payment system that doesn't involve the driver. In others words it has many of the aspects...

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin promises "spades in ground" for tram network by 2028 if reelected

Do you have any knowledge what is going on behind closed doors? I don't personally know what is happening with the Leeds tram system, but I do know a small amount of what is occurring in Manchester. A lot of plans are being drawn up for tram-train in the background even though nothing is...

    London to Edinburgh/Glasgow Question

Yes there's not really the capacity for additonal services south of Milton Keynes even if HS2 makes it Crewe, there still is only planned to be one train per hour suggesting the capacity issues are north of Crewe too. Edinburgh will probably always have more services than Glasgow but Edinburgh...

    London to Edinburgh/Glasgow Question

Like most services that run on busy GB lines, I don't think its demand for rail that limits services. There's millions of flights from the Central belt to London and its hard to believe that at least some of that demand couldn't be attracted to rail with more services. A quick glance at...

As it stands, is it worth ordering HS2 stock?

I'd question if they're even quicker to Manchester via Crewe. I worked out that a train from Handsacre without tilt would lose a maximum of 2 minutes via Crewe. Considering HS2 trains will accelerate quicker than pendos, I'd be surprised if they were timed for longer.

    Lincolnshire OAO?

I don't think looking at existing figures is neccesarily misleading. Its likely that they're still relatively proportionate. Growing up in Grimsby, I know that a lot of people drove to Newark to catch London trains. I think another problem with Skegness/Boston to London is that even with a...

    Lincolnshire OAO?

The population of North Lincolnshire is 330k. The population of Hull 2011 travel to work area including up to Driffield,Market Weighton, Hornsea, Goole and Howden is 520k. Add Bridlington and Selby and the surronding areas and you're up to around 600k. 1712520295 This is the main issue which is...

    Lincolnshire OAO?

The data is Lennon ticket data. It'll be an underestimate, as it won't include split ticketing occurring at Doncaster. Still it's not going to be huge numbers of people. It certainly could be a viable proposition though if only for a couple of services in each direction per day.

    Lincolnshire OAO?

Grimsby is one of the biggest markets, not served directly on the ECML, with around 17k one way journeys. Only Huddersfield is higher with 18k journeys. Cleethorpes has around 6.5k one way journeys to London, Barnetby and Market Rasen add another couple of thousand trips so there's clearly a...

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram pledges to bring "trackless trams" to Liverpool Airport, among other places

I pretty much agree with all of that. Some sort of alternative transport would be needed that provided more frequent stops for people who people with mobility issues. That could either be a fixed route service with smaller vehicles or a door to door services. At the moment bus tries to be...

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram pledges to bring "trackless trams" to Liverpool Airport, among other places

While the use of the phrase 'trackless tram' is slightly annoying, I think this a good idea. BRT isn't as good as tram but it has a lot of the advantages of trams including less frequent stops with better facilities, off board payment, segregation from traffic, and multiple doors on vehicles...
