    Public to choose fencing design for Bath's Sydney Gardens

    I live in Bath and I spend a lot of time in this area since my daughter loves to go there. Although I wish that they didn't have to put up fencing, I think that they need to. I've seen people climb down to the tracks several times, and I'm sure that it happens frequently when I'm not around. I...

    Israel apparntly has Jaricho II's aimed at Europe

    First and foremost, this article is a load of tripe, and is at least 4 years old, since it refers to Ariel Sharon as Prime Minister. Sharon had a stroke in 2006 and has been in a coma ever since, and the country has moved on. That's strike one. Strike two is that it is written and published by...

    Finally a Good-Looking European Loco !

    Does this mean you don't like the Class 70? I'm not too keen on the flat front either, but it does at least look like someone put some thought into the design. Coming from the states I find it odd that so many of the European locomotives look like boxes on wheels.

    Competition 426 :: Voting

    For me it was a fight between 8 and 6. I felt that these were the only ones that that rain really contributed to the photo and wasn't just incidental. Several of the others were really good photos, but I didn't feel that they showcased the theme enough. I went with 6 because I like "small train"...

    Competition 421 :: Voting

    Quite a few of these were great, it was a fight between 5 and 8 for me also, but 5 won. If I could have two votes 8 would get the second, but I like 5 a bit more because of all the steam/smoke. marku

    Competition 408 :: Voting

    I think that there were quite a few really nice shots this week. I went with 8, just because I think that the lighting is really well done. I really liked a few of the others (6, 10, 13 and 14) but I really like snow shots. And I thought 11 was a pretty cool shot. mark u

    Another Eurostar problem (21 Feb)

    Although some of you might bite your tongues to say this, I think that the increased EU liberalization of international train travel is probably a good thing. I'd love to see a DB ICE in London, I've always felt that they are some of the best looking trains out there. Hopefully the series of...

    Belgian train crash kills at least twenty

    Looking at the other photos in that article it looks like the leading coach was ripped in half--this half remaining with the train, and the other half pushed along by the other train, trailing debris.

    Belgian train crash kills at least twenty

    Thanks, that map explains it better than I can.

    Belgian train crash kills at least twenty

    At this point the Eurostar/TGV Right of Way is still separate from the lines that stop in the station, but it is near this station that they join the regular mainline and run parallel into Brussels. It sounds like there is damage to the overhead infrastructure, which would have an impact on the...

    Favorite International Stations

    What are people's favorite international (non-UK) stations? I was thinking about the station in Helsinki (see thread below). Helsinki is one of my favorites--the giant art-deco statues are cool. I think for me these are more architectural favorites but are also great for trains. my top five--...

    Robots shunt TGVs

    I wonder which Paris depot these are going into. I'd assume the new one on the TGV Est line, but I've got no idea. I used to go over to the South-East depot whenever I could when I lived in Paris. It's quite a sight seeing all of the TGVs lined up together. Unfortunately I was never able to make...

    Bliar, The UK and War

    Well, just off the top of my head, the Napoleonic Wars were from 1803 (breaking of the peace of Amiens by the french) until 1815 (final capitulation of Napoleon and the treaty of Vienna). During this time there were several different PMs who were at war for their entire time in government. This...

    Bliar, The UK and War

    I'm not sure where this expert was getting his facts or if there was more to it than this, but this doesn't really stand up factually. The UK hasn't been at war for 12 years, only 8, unless you are using a very, very loose definition of war. And if that is the case than there are plenty of other...
