Yes, you can buy Advance tickets on another operator to bridge the gap. Many forum members including me have done just that, and Northern’s guards see these tickets every day, so they’ll be used to it.

I’ve just had a look at booking both of your journeys separately. Both are enabled for e-ticket.
For some reason, the issue arises when both are in the basket.
I’m inclined to agree. I can’t see any basis on which using Avanti on an Any Permitted ticket to Sheffield would be permitted (nor can I see any chance of getting past the dragons at the Euston gateline) :lol:
Provided this is done before departure time and you are happy to pay a £10 fee, yes.
For airport arrivals you would be well advised to use flexible tickets for your onward train journey, or leave a decent margin to allow for delay if using Advance fares.
Is it worth the stress? It’s been a minute late arriving CLJ Tue & Weds this week. Coupled with (potentially) more passengers than usual due to your gig, and the fact you’re going all the way to Bournemouth, I personally wouldn’t risk it.
