The UK Railway Network- a true network?

There is a chord off the mainline onto the Looe branch at Liskeard which allows the Moorswater freight to get onto the Looe branch. It is also used for changing units over onto the Looe branch.

First will not take over West Coast from December

We won't ever know precisely why the deal was pulled just as precisely as we won't ever know how this magical, mythical £600 million loan figure was calculated. I think what's happened is that a golden opportunity landed itself on McLoughlin's plate to wipe the slate clean without any need to...

Alnmouth to Glasgow return + variations

Ok thanks fellas. It looks like my original option Alnmouth to Glasgow Off peak super day return + a Glasgow-Partick return at £1.20 will be my best option. I'll have to watch the Haymarket connection though.

Alnmouth to Glasgow return + variations

I'm planning to do the follwoing photo trip next week I'm not able to book advance tickets because my health has been unpredictable lately. I'm proposing a super off peak day return for the main leg at £31.95 I would like to know which other legs I'll need tickets for. I'm thinking...

First will not take over West Coast from December

As we've all become touchline experts on sub-ordinated loans and 15 year forecasting , I'd like to see a massive simplification of the process. The bids should be put together based on ONE (maximum 2) year's trading then adjusted mechanically by the Dft for growth factors taking out...

Who do you think will win the new Greater Western franchise?

BBC Spotlight has jsut announced that the Great Western franchise has been put on hold as a result of the West Coast announcements. Here's the view from :This is Exeter" http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk/Exeter-London-train-deal-hold/story-17026548-detail/story.html

First will not take over West Coast from December

They won't know what the process is for a long time to come yet. My guess is that there will have to be a rapid contract extension process for all terminating franchises to allow a ROBUST system to be put in place.

First will not take over West Coast from December

The worrying thing here is that if the process was so flawed , who is going to be able to devise a new bidding system that isn't capable of being challenged in public as this has been ? Any lawyer worth his salt will be able to find a show-stopping flaw in any document of 100s of pages and...

    Natural gas-powered locomotive

Stop it choking everyone and creating a black lining in the sky and you've cracked it ! EDIT : as a spotter in the 60s , I can vouch that there was nothing romantic about big black locos billowing loads of black smoke into the sjy and down peoples' throats..

    Natural gas-powered locomotive

It would be interesting to know how serious they are and what consumption in miles per tonne they're getting.. I presume there would be maybe 50 tonnes of deadweight in the fuel tank.

First win Intercity West Coast franchise

Anytime fares as you rightly say are almost non-starters except for emergency requirements. However compare them with Advance fares. For next Friday for example ,you can get an advance single EUS-MAN for £32.50 on any of the early trains compared with the £148 walk up. As I say , Anytimeis...

Manchester Piccadilly - Yeovil Pen Mill

15/10/2012 11:07 AM Off peak (as part of a return). This is a simple question I hope ! There are 2 trains involved . the XC MAN-BRI and the FGW Great Malvern-Weymouth. NRE gives a changeover station of Cheltenham but Bristol is my preferred option as the GMV-WEY is a rickety-bump, rickety...

Loco Hauled trains with Freight locos

Not rare at all. 45/46s non-eth turned up regularly in Devon. Arguable if they were freight but I think the general view at the time was that non-eth were freight rather than passenger locos
