Euston-Watford/North London DC Lines before London Overground

Sorry, not verry good at blogging! I may have been wrong about the maker of the older units, being a young electrician I was more interested in the electrical equipment witch was MetroVick with the electrical control equipment behind the drivers cab with just a single rail or bar between the...

Euston-Watford/North London DC Lines before London Overground

I remember that line in the early 1960's The 501's were called "57 stock" and worked the Watford Junction Euston service, while the order Oricon(Yes I don't know the spelling!) did the Harrow to Broad Street service. The older stock didn't last long and were eventually stored at Crocksly Green.

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

I also think it was used for cyclists as well. Is the rose garden for the blind near the church still there? Sorry editor, just memories!

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

When I lived in Bletchley in the late 1960's there was a footpath that I used every day, which went from Church Green Road, near the Church, to the station entrance. Is it still there?

Closed lines you have travelled on.

Shoreham by Sea to Horsham via Bramber. Push pull with a Terrier on the front. I will never forget the "Bark Bark" noise of the Terrier vibrating around the Ader Valley. Later in the early 1960's with the horrid DEMU's. Memories of my youth! I drove my car on the route a few years ago 1672498051...

    60 Years ago - the 62-63 Winter

I recall as an electrician at Willesden MPD being called out with a fitter to Brent north end near to Wembley Central to a failed type 1(Type 20). The fitter found out that the fuel Line had "Waxed out" ( Low temperature of Gas Oil fuel. I Never been so cold in my life!

Redevelopment Plans for Liverpool Street - Development Policy Going Backwards

I worked at LV during the 70's and you can easily locate the original part of the train shed as the original columns are fluted and the new are plain. The original station was dirty and ugly the new concourse and area adjacent to platforms 1 to 9 where the old general offices are a great...

    Measuring using chains

When I was studying Electrical Engineering in the late 1950's I used Imperial Units, but by the time the 60's arrived we were all metric. Although I'm an old man now I don't have any problem with conversion between systems. The clue is to do all your calculations on the system provide and then...

Closed lines you have travelled on.

Shoreham Bye Sea to Bramber steam hauled or pushed. I can still here the "Bark Bark" of the Terrier echoing across the Adur Valley! Days gone by.

Alcohol Consumption & Working on the railways

When I was at Willesden MPD in the early 1960's There was a BRSA club just at the entrance to the MPD ( We called it the "Institute") It was always full of drivers drinking, but most only moderately, although I was only a fitter/electrician I had a few myself!

Redevelopment Plans for Liverpool Street - Development Policy Going Backwards

Only the Platform canopies for Platform 1 to 9 are original, and not all of that a large portion was taken up by the old general offices. Still the station is so much more attractive than the old station and I think the designers should be congratulated on the improvement

    Max speed...

I remember when the electrification into Euston in about 1965 being in the cab of a AL 5 with a defective speedo when we got to Watford in 13 minutes! Boy was it a rough ride. line speeds were a bit lower then.

    What train encapulates your childhood?

I remember the 86's when they were AL6's. Saw my first parked at Rugby when I was a very junior engineer on the Electric Traction Section at Euston . About 1964ish maybe 1965. I met them later on the Great Eastern 50 years later. They always had a lot of dig.
