Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

I guess nonsensical would cover the 'without firm foundation in logic', whereas plain controversial would be those with a firm foundation in logic?

Standing passengers on registered express services

Not necessarily rubbish. Not sure of the exact rules without some research, but if the vehicle has seat belts then children shouldn't be in front seats without an appropriate seat. (This I think is because those belts don't restrain small people as effectively).

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

This route has been the subject of a number of initiatives over the years. Traditionally it was Service no. 44 jointly run by City of Oxford and Stratford Blue, 4 times per day. In more recent times it was the X50, in the mid 90's for a short period an hourly service...

Standing passengers on registered express services

It is not the type of service or the type of road that determines whether standing passengers can be conveyed, it is the vehicle certification. Coaches are not normally certified for standing passengers (mostly due to lack of grab rails and floor to ceiling height), and most operators of such...

    Thames-Clyde Express in the 1970's

I certainly recall seeing an official closure notice posted at Market Harborough in the mid 70s, mentioning trains at (out of reach) obscure times of the morning and night!

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

I am sure Chiltern Trains have provided this facility in the past. I believe BR (W) had summer through coaches via Leamington at one time. However, it seems that the number of passengers does not warrant such through trains on an economical basis (probably because the demand is limited to...

    Thames-Clyde Express in the 1970's

Northampton-Market Harborough line. Northampton-Wellingborough had been shut and lifted in '64.

    Wales looks at bus franchising

Lets not be unduly pessimistic. Whatever your views of the politics of franchising, they can hardly do any worse at 'integration' than now. As you point out, for various reasons the bus companies do not have much talent available now, so are not doing much proactive really and are hamstrung by...

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network

If the whole scheme (of integrated public transport in the area) is not designed to substantially increase use then it is not worth doing, is it? So, yes, there probably is reason to think that.

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network

None of this going to be done without DfT agreement, so it will be the DfT doing the specification of what is going to be allowed and what is not. I would guess that there will be a desire not to include long distance express trains (however that may be defined) into the city area franchising...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Happened in the 70s too - my high school did a Med. cruise (1972?). The letter went straight in the bin too. Most of the kids who did go were 'only' children (including one of my friends), but I didn't feel bad about it - it knew it was out of the question. Luckily I had adventurous...

What other possibilities are there to improve capacity around Reading?

Gosh - if you thought HS2 was difficult enough to build through the Chilterns opposition, imagine trying to do this through Burghclere and Hampstead Norris.....

£2 fare - but what next?

In my area, where I travel on a fairly extensive selection of bus services, I think that about 20% of £2 fare payers do so by cash. Paying by phone/watch is usually slower than contactless card ( I also notice the phenomenon of people not having their phone ready on boarding - about as many...

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network

There may be some (hence my comment that the overarching politics need to be left aside), and I think it unlikely to be a concern if it were Andy Street (City regions being ringed by conservative 'shire' areas occurs for a reason, and is not just a UK phenomenon) and I understand why that is...
