Hi there

I have recently started the training course and am feeling anxious with the amount of literature already provided and how much I’ll have to learn. I’ve never worked for a railway company and the others on my course have so am feeling rather thick. Am only three weeks in but can someone let me know whether all of a sudden things will just start falling into place as at the moment I’m unsure. Thanks

There is a lot to learn, but don't be afraid to ask a question! If you don't understand it, ask!

You've been chosen as they think you're up to the job. Ask the trainer, ask your fellow trainees, ask the trainer when you break for lunch if you are embarrassed.

Chances are you won't be the only one in the group who doesn't fully understand the subject, even if you are, who cares. You will understand it and that is all that matters.

Many thanks. Was wondering at age 50 whether it was too much to take on.

Everybody will be thinking the same, I know I have been there.
A trainer once said “better to look a fool than be one!” In reality nobody looks a fool as it is always best to ask and nobody ever will laugh at you or think less of you.
I have queried or asked for clarification on many things from many people and
always been treated with respect and given sound easy to understand advice.
Relax and enjoy what you are doing.

I'm assuming this includes or is a ticket office role.

Theres definite a big culture change coming to the railway but I'm sure you'll get there and it will sink in. 3 weeks is still early days .

The colleagues on your course or in the booking office will be sure to help, that's normally a good thing on the railway, most people will try to help others get through .

Only thing is, how is this course being done? Is it real life or dreaded zoom. The former is probably a better environment to learn in tbh.

You’ll be fine. The Customer Service Training Team at SWR are lovely as you’ve no doubt already discovered. I’ve done a lot of work with them over the years and they’re always willing to help. If there’s something niggling at you, just ask questions, one to one if you feel more comfortable.
