Class 31 on the move

mmmmm being silly here but anyone got any idea how much a class 31 would cost
say in heritage working order, TPWS and the radio system would put the price up

Assuming reasonable working condition, somewhere around £50k+, if it is a mainline runner then considerably more. Depends on demand as well, the price of class 37s and 73s went up quite a bit when Colas and GBRF respectively were in the market for a number of locos.

Some pictures on WNXX (subscription section) of ERS 31452 after its arrival at Great Yarmouth, on the lorry, on track and running after a quick wash down, not surprisingly looking a little careworn body wise for now

31454 is now at Nemesis Rail Burton after road transfer from Kinsley

Also on the move is 31466 from Dean Forest to Severn Valley behind 50049

I went past Yarmouth today and there was a 31, a 08 and an eclectic mix of stock in the sidings.

Not bad for something 60 years old! How much did they cost to build in the first place?

Purely from a hazy memory but had a book in my possession some years ago that quoted the build costs of several 1st gen BR diesels with Deltics well over £200,000 and £125,000 a piece sticks in mind for a class 47 with (I think) around £135,000ish for a Western - these of course were early 60s costs so a very rough guesstimate for a class 31 at 1957 prices £80-90,000 perhaps?

Absolutely, it was probably so quiet nobody heard it running ......... I believe it was also out two or three weeks ago taking 47746 up to Carnforth and worked with 33029 on the Scarborough Spa Express

No updates on Hanson & Hall 31106 which is/was undergoing work at ELR for a return to the mainline

31128 was out wednesday on 0730 0Z31 Burton OT Wetmore Sdgs to Knottingley TMD returning on 1100 5Z31 with mk1 generator coach 6310

31128 returned 86259 yesterday on 1046 0Z31 Burton OT Wetmore Sdgs to Lichfield TV CE Sdgs then 1154 0Z32 return

31128 currently at Grosmont, worked there as 1125 0Z31 from Burton last Tuesday on hire to NYMR for three weeks to work Whitby services for the unavailable D7628

Speaking of 31128, it has also been booked for the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala over the 6/7/8th of May. Likely it’ll be collecting / returning locos on its way there and back.

First leg today for 31128 on 0745 0Z31 Grosmont to Worksop Down Yard, should be picking up 37703 for tomorrows 0Z37 to Butterley and then 0Z45 to Swanage after collecting 44004 and 46045
