Just to ask what did people think of Trippier at left back earlier. personally I think it was rubbish decision even if he played decent. It's just common sense an LB is better than a RB in left back.

When I saw the team I was worried tbh, not seen much of Trippier recently with him playing in Spain... and didn't think Chilwell deserved to miss out.
Trippier played well though, so I guess that's why Southgate is the England manager rather than me.

It's something to do with the TV cameras and how it is manually adjusted for brightness etc.. If you are at an actual game in these circumstances it doesn't look half as bad., chances are the brightness of the sun is worse than the shadow.

28C in London.
Will get them into shape for Qatar though ;)
It's the same issue at Marvel Stadium down here. By afternoon half the ground gets cast in shadow and makes watching on TV a pain and if you looking into the sun at the ground even a bigger pain. It's partially why they declared roof shut for AFL games this year.

He had a good game and did the job he was given to do well. He was there becuase southgate trusts him, wanted his leadership/experiance on the field ( Mings said he was guided all game by Trippier) because his other leaders are injured and becuase he was felt to be better if isolated 1 v 1 against the croatian wide players

I thought shaw or chilwell would come in for the next game but now i am not so sure.

Scottish bubble appears to have possibly burst in their opening game. 0-1 down at half time vs Czech Republic.

Scotland, I thought, were unlucky. Not much between the two sides. 2-0 seems a bit harsh.

The next game v England will be full on Braveheart, FREEEEEEEDOM, Caledonian, saltire faced nonsense.

Apparently it's emerging now that the Danes were given 2 options on Saturday - continue the game that evening or at noon the following day. Neither of those are great and I'm hearing unconfirmed rumours that there may have been a 3rd option which was to forfeit and take a 3-0 defeat. If true then that doesn't exactly put UEFA in a good light particularly with the importance of mental health. Credit should go to the Danish players for trying to play and to the Finnish players who said they'd do whatever the Danes wanted.

Scotland weren't even particularly bad today, just some really poor finishing and a freak goal. May as well announce the goal of the tournament now as that won't be beaten.

Slovakia look a decent side so far. They've a few players who aren't afraid to take defenders on, and sucker-punched the Poles with a counter attack goal (which UEFA have harshly credited as a Szczesny own-goal). Since going ahead they've had more of the ball, and they've kept Lewandowski quiet for the first 30mins. They could well be the "dark horse" of the tournament...

POSTSCRIPT: Whatever Paolo Sousa said at half-time, it worked! 1-1 now.

A hell of a goal though

Fantastic awareness and execution but let’s be honest, it’s horrific goalkeeping. When you’re playing five at the back your goalie isn’t needed to play as an auxiliary defender. If he stays in his penalty area, it doesn’t happen

which UEFA have harshly credited as a Szczesny own-goa

Well they have to don’t they? The ball wouldn’t have gone in were it not for him. Unlucky, yes. Harsh, no

Gotta love the Spanish fans "singing" their national anthem!
That was rousing, especially considering the reduced attendance and masks!

Should be another good game this one. I always like the games that involve a clash of footballing philosophies...

Spain look dangerous, meanwhile there's a large Zlatan-shaped hole in this Sweden side.

Spain completely dominated that first 45 minutes and should be winning. Despite that, Sweden could also have easily been 1-0 up.

Credit to Sweden, they've defended resolutely. Spain for all their possession and flair haven't been able to find a way through

That’s a great result for Sweden.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m starting to quite enjoy this now...

So...I was watching France vs Germany, and in the final minute of play, ITV's streaming service cut to adverts! Did that happen in other areas / on broadcast digital TV??

To be fair 90+6 became 90+8! Not condoning anything but maybe this was a factor! Pity France were disallowed two goals for, quite frankly, academic offside! Pre-VAR at least one of those would've stood.

Yes most annoying, just as well it wasn't Fridays Match :E

Impressive contrast with regard to social distancing to the other fixtures in Hungary last night !!

Packed in tighter than sardines against Portugal.

Ronaldo removed two bottles of coke from in front of him at a press conference and causes a $4 billion drop in Coca-Cola's share price (1.6%). Funny, impressive and scary all at the same time.
