Hi guys; hoping someone can help. I want to buy a ticket for my daughter to pick up from a TVM in Brighton, where she studies. I was always under the impression that you could use any card to pick tickets up from TVMs (used to do that a lot with tickets bought through work) and that the details of the card were just recorded in case there were any disputes, But have seen a few sites lately say that you "must use the card that you bought the ticket with" (which obviously wont work for us). Any idea if that's true, or does it depend? Thanks!

I think you would be best asking the TOC you bought the tickets from if they can set it to any card collection

It depends.

If you use PayPal or another payment provider where the retailer doesn’t know what card you use, any card is fine to use.

If you use a payment provider where the retailer does know what card you use (such as putting your card details into the site directly), then the retailer will generally require you to use the same card as used for purchase.

Your best option would be probably to either use PayPal for a ticket issued by Ticket on Departure or purchase the ticket as an e-ticket (if available) and send it to your daughter for them to use.

Alternatively, you could also ask the retailer from which you’ve purchased to set the collection for any card collection, as it can be overridden by the retailer.

It's safest to assume you have to use the card you used to make the purchase.

A workaround is to use a site like GWR, Transpennine, SWR and purchase an e-voucher for the exact amount of the fare and use the e-voucher to but the ticket. You will then be able to collect it from the TVM using any card.

An alternative is to choose an e-ticket which you can email to your daughter.

Can't find the eVouchers anymore, only LNER have them.

LNER also sell gift vouchers and it will work also.

With GWR, TPE etc sign into your account and 'Buy Gift Voucher' is one of the options under Account Details.
