Geismar PEM - LEM, remote control track handling machines:
I don’t think they’d do that though, probably much easier to lay new track.
The PEM bit can be /has been used for large slews as new won't be possible for all locations

I think the OLE would introduce complication too. Ideally an arrangement is devised and put in place before the realignment, which can carry the wires in both the current and final alignments moving only small part steelwork, and whose ground foundations don't conflict with anything that's there now or planned to be there in future. Otherwise changes to OLE structures are needed at the same time as the tracks are moved.

Barnet Council have posted a video of recent activities on location, including the installation of part of the Eastern overbridge. You can see the new alignment of the slow lines, positioned either side of the east island platform. Work on the west island platform should begin once the up fast is realigned (during the Spring Bank Holiday, I believe).

Still much work to do, but it's at the stage when you can begin to properly imagine where the rest of the station will be.

Brent Cross (Northern Line) used to be named Brent and was renamed to sell its proximity to the shopping centre. But it is much more inconvenient than Brent Cross West will be, even though it gets the second class name. It’ll have to be BCW, as BXW is already taken by Box Hill & Westhumble.

Is there going to be a shuttle bus to the shopping centre or is it easy walking distance?

The station is principally for the new town, but the shopping centre will be about half a mile from the station.

According to the latest update report, the contract completion date has been pushed back 3 months to 10 September 2022. Station opening is still scheduled for December that year.
An integrated programme, taking into account the changes to the rail systems works
programme, has been agreed with Mace, Volker Fitzpatrick and Network Rail. This has
resulted a change to key contract dates. Most notably the completion of the station
construction works from 2 March 2022 to 26 May 2022, with the contract completion date
from 9 June 2022 to 10 September 2022. The Station opening remains unchanged with
sufficient contingency. The updated Station programme is set out below

Will any 12 car trains call here? Are the semi-fasts (the WH to Elstree fasts) 12?

It's good at least that there is an Edgware Road / Staples Corner exit, and it will connect those two, fairly isolated place together. Plus a bigger catchment (especially if a ped A5 crossing can be improved!) - that arse-end of Neasden/Cricklewood is pretty un-served.

September 2021 report now up, along with some photos (here and here). The central concourse situated above the tracks is beginning to take shape.

Sidenote - Barnet Council will no longer seek to have Brent Cross tube station renamed as Brent Cross East. They'd have to pay TfL £1.4 million for the privilege.

£1.4 Million?!? For redoing the Station signs, putting vinyl stickers on existing network signage, and copy-pasting the "East" from "Mill Hill East" for the PA announcements? Christ...

If they can persuade a 3rd party to pay, there‘d be no vinyl stickers involved. every Northern Line route diagram sign would be replaced with new… Still a ridiculously high sum…

I imagine there'd be a heck of a lot of electronic systems to update too.

Out of interest, how much do you think it should cost?

All the Northern Line maps have been replaced or updated for the Battersea extension, so Brent Cross could have been updated at the same time, which would have been a saving? Indeed many of the platform maps are from before Brent was renamed, and just have the Brent Cross name stuck on top!

And TfL/LRT were happy to rename Shepherd's Bush (H&C station) to Shepherd's Bush Market, or Surrey Docks to Surrey Quays

I mean, you make a good point about the NLX. You would think a bit of common sense would have prevailed and the authorities would have requested the change in advance of any of the new infrastructure opening to piggyback on it.

I think the station currently named Arsenal should revert to it’s original Gillespie Road name, to confuse away supporters and keep them from attending.
The team needs every bit of help or can get lately :D

Which maps are those? I'm only aware of two surviving examples that have been modified in this way.

With the way Arsenal is playing, it's probably only the away fans making the trip to the ground....

Sadly, even this won't help as Drayton Park is much closer. Better rename that Stamford Bridge instead <D:D

That doesn't help in any case as Drayton Park is closed to passengers when Arsenal play at home on the grounds of safety as the station wouldn't be able to cope with the numbers travelling which is why fans are directed to Finsbury Park which can deal with the amount of numbers travelling.

So renaming Drayton Park to anything is a pointless and costly exercise.

Wasn't serious, just a useful method to gain the ire of Arsenal fans.

Thanks Cowley - anybody know if it's still on track to open in December, and if not how long it's likely to be delayed by?

The December timetable now contains unadvertised stops for slow line Thameslink trains at Brent Cross West. Most (but not all in peak hours) trains will call there. The service frequency will be:
  • At most 8 trains per hour in peak hours (2 Luton - Rainham, 2 Luton - Orpington, 2 St Albans - Sutton loop (clockwise), 2 St Albans - Sutton loop (anticlockwise))
  • 6 trains per hour off-peak (2 Luton - Rainham, 2 St Albans - Sutton loop (clockwise), 2 St Albans - Sutton loop (anticlockwise))
  • 4 trains per hour Sunday afternoon (2 Luton - Sutton loop (clockwise), 2 St Albans - Sutton loop (anticlockwise))
  • 2 trains per hour Sunday morning (2 Luton - Sutton loop (clockwise))

Definitely not opening in December. As yet no formal opening date has been provided.

More details from the latest Barnet Housing and Growth Committee report on Brent Cross (link here):

1.10. As a result of the replanned railway access mentioned above, major construction work is now expected to be complete in early 2023. The council are continuing to work with rail industry partners to agree a formal opening date which will follow a period of testing and commissioning as is usual with all new stations.

1.11. The stated completion date in the service contract for the Mace project management team who manage the delivery of the Brent Cross West station contract on behalf of the council is the 31st January 2023 (albeit with an explicit acknowledgement that this would be governed by the completion of works). In line with the council’s procurement rules and to avoid any potential ambiguity the end date should be formally extended to align with the updated programme which will go beyond the stated date. The committee is asked to delegate to the Deputy Chief Executive the authority to extend engagement of the Mace project management team to maintain the Brent Cross West programme through to Station opening.
