Assuming (wistfully) 90% of trains run on time, that’d be a £10 expenditure for a free journey on Northern.

Not worth it in any sense of the word - easy journey to court.
Agree. Even assuming you rode on the services purchased, it would be a gamble in terms of time lost.

LNER £5 seat sale has started today travel Sept 6th T0 15th Oct, first class from £15

LNER say this "sale" ends tomorrow morning (1st Sept). Does anyone know if that actually means that lots of cheap fares visible just now, will disappear as of tomorrow? Or is their countdown just to try and hurry people up?

Would you be able to state what percentage of sale tickets were purchased?

For any young uns in Scotland or travelling in Scotland, you can get 50% off off-peak tickets between 6-26 September. Just bring a student card, letter of acceptance, UNiDAYS etc.

For the Johnstone press newspaper northern day ranger offer can you buy 3 papers on the same day and affix the tokens to a application form ? Or do they have to be tokens from the newspapers on separate days ?

Based on previous events the newspaper vouchers will be the same throughout the weeks they are published, just with maybe "November 2021" printed on the top.

Good to see the promotion back for those people lucky enough to live in the area where the papers are sold.

Are there any good cashback offers on at the moment? TopCashback and Quidco are both looking a little bit dry

I found what appears to be a good offer on Quidco...

"£10 Boost Reward | Travel extras | Starts 07 October

Take the stress out of Holiday planning and get all the extras you need for your trip, plus get a £10 Boost Reward when you opt-in and make a purchase in our travel extras hub.

Simply hit the opt-in button, click through, and then make your purchase as normal with one of the following retailers; Europcar, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Scotrail, Holiday Extras Airport Parking, Purple Parking, P&O Ferries, Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport Parking, Omio, No1 Lounges, Carrentals.co.uk, RAC UK Breakdown Cover, AA UK Breakdown Cover, Rescuemycar.com Breakdown Cover, Start Rescue, Tesco Bank Travel Insurance, LV= travel insurance, Confused.com Travel insurance, MoneySuperMarket Travel Insurance, Sixt UK, Hoppa, Rentalcars.com, Heathrow Airport Parking, Airparks Airport Parking, Holiday Autos, HolidayTaxis, Booking.com Car Hire."

From what I can tell, as long as you make a purchase that normally activates a cashback reward, you'll get the bonus on top. Does not mention having to purchase a particular type of ticket. I'm a 'Premium' member, so not sure if all accounts eligible. Would appreciate not posting to deal sites for 'likes'. Edit: Scotrail cashback requires you to purchase a ticket wholly within Scotland.

IMG_20211011_093718107.jpgI bought 6 copies of the Yorkshire Evening Post this morning at Leeds. Tokens look like this so clearly it doesn't matter what date's papers you buy.

In my newsfeed was a story from the Norwich local press that GA are offering 50k cheap fares (Hare Fares) for £5 (no Railcard or Group Save discounts) online or on their app on various routes, including London, from 14 Oct to mid-Nov.

Googling l found this. The tickets are on sale 11-31 Oct 21 and can be used 14 Oct-21 Nov 21. Standard Advanced ticket rules apply.

Not rail-specific but the new Chase bank account might be worth looking at - 1 per cent cashback on most card spending for a year.

Nectar customers might also want to check out the Countdown to Christmas promotion - I was able to get £2.50 (500 points) for buying two singles from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Betws-y-Coed on the GWR app (although the blurb for the promotion refers to Advances only).

I’ve had an email through from Northern this evening about £1.50 tickets to Leeds or Bradford.

That’s literally all it says!

I've had it too. Northern do know that my local station is Keighley. Going on their website there are some trains with £1.50 tickets available, including the 1018 to Bradford. The next train to Leeds has a £3.00 advance, making it less likely to be worth doing if doing a return.

The 1231 to Leeds has a £1.50 ticket available.

https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/jpimedia "Three tokens allow you to buy up to 4 Northern only Day Ranger tickets or Weekend Rover tickets which must all be used on the same day or weekend (depending on the ticket chosen). Travel is available between Monday1 November - Tuesday 30 November 2021"

A bit more about the Northern newspaper offer you can also use the vouchers from Reach PLC. With these you only need two vouchers. See link below for more information.

Just booked a ticket via National Rail, and have been offered 15% cashback valid for three months against any train fare, irrespective of value. I'd not heard of this one - sounds like a great scheme.

Are National Rail (nationalrail.co.uk) selling train tickets now? :D

The offer was from the National Rail site - not TPE from whom I purchased the tickets (after NR initially trying to direct me to Avanti's site, which failed). I've now had an email confirming, and you have to pay £15 pm for the privilege of joining an outfit called Complete Savings. I don't remember seeing this - or perhaps I just missed it, Anyhoo, it feels a bit sneaky, doesn't sit right with me, so I think I'll cancel.

Just be careful that if thud is an offer from completesavings.co.uk (which you can get when you look up train times on national rail and get forwarded to a vendor) that you follow to the letter the terms and conditions.
Otherwise you will have signed up to a £15 monthly direct debit until you cancel.

You should definitely avoid this. It shouldn't be associated with National Rail - what does it say about the brand as a result of being associated? - and I have told them this.
