I like the look and design of the Neoplan double deck coaches, and was wondering how best to do a decent ride on one, without having to hire one etc. So which coach operators in the UK use them? Do any use them on scheduled runs like Berry's super fast etc? I know Flixbus use them, so is it possible to know which routes they are used on, or are they used on any double decker runs?
.
I can remember some good runs on Neoplans when they operated on National express 501 and 592, operated by Trathens and Parks of Hamilton, and I had a very good run to Zielona Gora in Poland on a Eurolines service, operated by a Polish operator. I don't think it had a governor on it, as we ran early all the way, I’d say 70-80mph. Coming back on single decker, I was sat near the front and we were doing 70-80mph a lot on the way back, so I reckon similar speeds on the way out, this was 10-15 years ago approx. I think its a shame National Express and Megabus don't use them anymore as they were comfortable, and seemed to have powerful engines. Are they still good coaches to travel on and are they good to drive?

I think Neoplan stopped selling their double deck coach in the UK about 2006-07. Therefore I think the only think the only way you can get a ride on one is if you hire one from an operator!

What about on rail replacement? Andrews (tideswell) still has one that sees use on rail replacement. If there’s a friendly operator near you that has one, and does planned rail reps you could see if there’s anything profiled?

Are any of them PSVAR compliant? If not then they can't be used on regular service work.

I remember reading that the fatal accident around that time was one of the reasons that Neoplan stopped selling the Skyliner here, the tourliner single decker being the only new Neoplan product you can buy here, but when you consider that Setra are no longer active in the UK anymore it could have been an economic thing too.

Is it definitely the case that Neoplan no longer sell the Skyliner here, or is it merely the case that there have been no orders for it? I don't ever remember seeing anything to indicate that they'd withdrawn it from the UK market.

I had always thought Setra had withdrawn from the UK as Evobus wanted to sell more Tourismos in their place.

That was my understanding as well, and there seemed to be little point in selling two separate brands to the UK in small numbers.

I've just had a look on buslistsontheweb.co.uk and it would appear that the last Neoplan Skyliners delivered here were two to Holmeswood Coaches in 2007. I didn't realise that it had been so long since any new examples were registered here.

Gus, the only product that Neoplan sell on their site for the UK market is the Tourliner now, the cityliner and skyliner being discontinued from UK sale, whether as I said, the accident had anything to do with it as when it happened, Neoplan did all sorts of tests and found the product fit for work but as far as I know, NX did not bring the skyliners back into service saying that they wanted to do more tests. I know that Megabus were still running theirs for a long time afterwards.
