I currently use a monthly season ticket pontypridd to Cardiff central, but after seeing that a Merthyr to Bridgend monthly season is only 80p more, it's got me wondering... Are there any season tickets available that would let me go up any of the 3 lines from pontypridd (treherbert, aberdare and Merthyr), and would also allow me to do either of the lines to Bridgend (main line or via barry, and would also allow me to do Cardiff bay, and still fairly close to the current season ticket I use in price?

Officially no. However, a season between Maesteg and Merthyr Tydfil may be accepted from Aberdare if you asked politely. At least a single between Abercynon and Aberdare is only £3.30. Same between Treherbert and Pontypridd. The ticket can be used via Llantwit Major.

I do wonder why TfW don't just issue an All Valleys Season at £30 / week.

It's unclear if doubling back from Cardiff Queen Street would be permitted. There may be some kind of "local easement" in place as there is with interavailability with Haymarket and Edinburgh.

I would ask locally and if the staff suggest you'd need to buy a single from Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay, to pay for one (or walk, depending on your preference).

If you live in Wales perhaps you can politely write your your member in the Senedd asking about the range of season products and whether a zonal Valleys Season couldn't be introduced. It would seem win win - a little bit more money from some customers and a more convenient, user-friendly ticket.

£2.40 for Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay seems like an awful lot to pay for the added value it brings.

For £102.60 a month, you're limited to going down one valley and up another, or on the mainline as far as Briton Ferry. There are no interavailable fares or non-rail transfers or anything like that.

If you fancy a day out visiting different parts of the network, there are off peak tickets which cover all of the Valley lines (rovers, rangers, and a "night rider"). They're a lot more expensive per day than a season ticket.

If you intend to visit different branches fairly regularly, you may be able to find something which meets your needs using season and Multiflex tickets for different bits of the network.

A "Valleys Night Rider", if available all day, rather than just after 1830, would fit the bill. Unfortunately, it doesn't yet exist.

The daytime equivalent is 'Explore Cardiff and the Valleys' but only valid after 0930 Mon-Fri

Good spot. Relatively expensive at £13.50 per day, but might suit the OP's needs depending on how early they have to be travelling. Valid also all day Saturdays and Sundays, but not Bank Holidays.

If Queen St - Bay is £2.40 single then £13.50 for all Valleys incl Ebbw Vale & Maesteg is a bargain!

Was comparing with say the cost of a weekly season from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Bay (or Maesteg, or Ebbw Vale) at £26.70.
