Interesting that an entire unit will make its way to Wales! Especially given that 315s were originally mooted for Valley Lines.

Plenty of other entire 315s have made their way to Wales, but have had a somewhat less gentle treatment on arrival!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks but the Class 315 Preservation Society have announced on their Fb group that due to circumstances beyond their control, they will no longer be preserving 315820. They will still be preserving a unit but sadly it won’t be 820 as planned.

As long as one is saved, I'm not bothered in the slightest. Never really did understand the obsession with 820 on that group.

What are the only 315’s left that 315 preservation group probably be likely getting?
There are only 10 315’s left 315837/838/839/844/847/848/853/854/856/857

315819/820 are off lease and going for scrap at Newport on Monday

Apparently the 315 preservation group couldn’t get the units storage sorted out before 315820 went off lease. They will be getting one of the 10 remaining. Fingers crossed

i think they got storage, but at the last minute due to legal reasons (which they cant go into) it fell through hence they couldnt take 820 as planned as who ever was delivering it needed a set delivery address in advance

57310 with 315819+315820 on 5Q76 10:19 ILFORDEMD to NEWPORTDK 08/11/21
Good news just passed at Camden road with 315819. 315820 might be safe.
Also tommorow a move is planned for ely mlf Papworth so hopefully it's safe.
That's Tuesday the 08th November 2021.
However 315819 has a fresh red poppy on the side.
I just hope that Newport Docks Simms don't scrap this train until after remberance day. As a mark off respect for those who lost their lives in the wars.
This train does have a rather nice poppy on it.
I hope Newport Simms see sense and respect this.

57310 with 315819 only. 315820 is still at Ilford depot
Quite surprised that 819 was on its own on today’s move to Newport given that 820 will no longer be going into preservation though that unit will still be scrapped sadly at some point

I doubt it. It is, after all, a vinyl poppy. Had it been something else, or Eversholt instructed them to, then it may have lived on for longer. But it is in SIMS eyes scrap, and scrap that will be costing them.

Yes the Sims operation is rather about "just in time", in their case loading the ship to capacity. Ship not loaded to capacity = financial loss. This is possibly why they're not interested in removing bits for sale.

Booths, by contrast, don't seem to rush. For example 365501 was only just finished off last Friday, and 365511 was fully intact as of the weekend (though was possibly started on today, sadly).

Trips to Sims do seem to happen in batches. All can be quiet for weeks at a time, then a whole load of stuff goes. I presume that some weeks they work on cars, or fridges, or whatever, and other weeks on trains.

We all know Eversholt isn't well regarded for keeping stock for sale / preservation
Do we know that? Have you dealt with them?

I would add that Eversholt's older fleet is almost entirely electric*, so is going to be of much reduced interest to preservation. They have been happy to sell stock on, though, for example a fair number of Mark 2DEF vehicles have had new owners since Virgin and Anglia finished using them and the 86s sold to Eastern Europe were largely former Eversholt machines.

* it was set up as being an "all electric" ROSCO, but has acquired diesels since then (66s, a handful of 168/170/171s, 185s, 195s, 222s and 10 second-hand 158s).

Oh, I thought it was 315850, but I concur…I was leaving on the 1239 Reading to Waterloo just as it came through Reading at 1240 towed by a Class 37…I think I was so surprised I didn't really notice the loco…A sad sight to see as they were one year old when I joined the railway and worked in Ilford Carriage Sidings. Will always have fond memories.
