PTEs are really good at managing and organising bus networks, and outwith PTE areas all buses are run by fly-by-night cowboys.

The plural of bus is "busses".

Buses and trains should compete with each other.

These are all the common customer outburst which one of my colleagues would always get quite aggressive, I on the other hand just used to laugh quite loudly especially at the old every other driver does it.

I had an inspector tell me to set down a passenger at a stop my limited stop service didn’t stop at!
This was after I politely told the passenger that I didn’t stop there - in front of the inspector!

He didn’t like my answer to his order and attempted to report me!

He was one of those inspectors who had a full years experience under his belt as a driver and knew it all!

To which could nicely be added "The driver has a float big enough and mixed enough to cover all needs at all times of the day." Suggestions of exactly how much money the company would need to keep in circulation to give all of their drivers even £20 are just "being difficult"!
Slightly off topic, Blackpool tram conductors get £30

Councils do run services in a few areas.

To be fair, with Limited Stop services it isn't always that easy to find out which stops are served, at least in West Yorkshire. Back in the day, any stop served by the X6 or X36 carried clear "Fastaway" branding but nowadays the served stops seem to be a closely guarded secret!

When there has been a very short notice diversion put in place, it’s definitely the bus company’s fault for not sticking up a notice at every single bus stop warning about it immediately.

Double deckers are too wide for this village and need to be replaced by single deckers. (People seek to think ‘deckers are always wider than singles).

I shall pull out in front of this bus, as buses are always really slow and can stop really easily.

Bus companies have a ‘franchise’. (This is probably because train companies often have a franchise, and the media mostly talk about trains when it comes to public transport)

When my bus comes past this bus stop where lots of other different buses stop, I definitely won’t need to need to make my intention known that I want to get on that bus.

It will be much better for this area to have a ‘London-style’ bus service, especially my tiny village in the middle of no where.

It is illegal to reverse a bus when in service.

If you use an ENCTS pass for your journey NOBODY has to pay anybody anything for it

Everyone who uses a bus route has the entire route memorised and knows which stop to use for the various different places served. Therefore if they ask the driver any questions at all, they're obviously just taking the Mick.

You need to press the bell for each person. (Elderly couple: man presses bell and starts to stand up. Wife: “Push it again. There are two of us.”)

The driver will definitely hear you saying "next stop" while they are sat behind the assault screen, concentrating on what's ahead of them and above the noise of the engine. I mean what are the bells for anyway?

One often overheard by obnoxious gobsh*tes arguing with the driver after being thrown off or refused boarding for any one of a multitude of reasons, usually along the lines of abusing other passengers, not having the correct fare, etc. 'It's public transport! You serve the public so you have to take me where I want to go'.

Believing that, if your local bus company issues zero-value paper tickets to ENCT pass holders, the drivers at another company which doesn’t issue them are somehow cheating you or on the fiddle when they don’t give you a ticket. (I am not sure if there are any companies still issuing zero-value tickets, but I have seen people getting het up on the buses about the lack of a ticket in the past.)

Drivers are always helpful and will give the correct answer to any question asked.
1) Q. How long will the next bus be? A. About 40 feet.
2) Q. How does the bus go to London? A. Brmm Brmm.
3) Q. Where do I get on the bus? A. Through the door.

That your bus will always arrive in tandem with at least one other. In the case of coaches, and you remember Cheltenham Coach Station, you might think two dozen or so leave in close formation. :D

That the driver will immediately make an emergency stop to let you off if you press the bell right at the stop.

That you can get the driver to stop right outside your house*, even if it is on a narrow, dangerous bend.

*Some exceptions apply for hail and ride services.

If you have an ENCTS pass valid from 0930 it's worth getting to the bus stop at 0900 as the driver of an earlier bus might let you on if you ask nicely "Am I too early?"

Any bus displaying 'Not in service' on the front of it is "not insured" to carry passengers.

Or so operators like to tell their drivers!

When Newport Transport introduced their first rechargeable Yutong they proudly announced it was the first fully electric bus in Wales. Until somebody pointed out that it was about a century too late!

A former colleague who was driving the Routemaster in question received what he thought was the 4-bell (stop immediately) signal approaching Kings Cross. He duly stopped the bus and went to find out what the problem was. Upon reaching, the rear platform he found the conductor standing in his usual position wondering why the bus had suddenly stopped, particularly as he hadn't given the 4-bell signal.

At this point, 4 Chinese gentlemen emerged from the top deck having each obeyed the "press once" instruction in quick succession

They'd obviously been reading Mao Tse Tung's 'Little Red Bus Book.' :D

It is, though it's an americanism (also popular with TfL for some reason).

NOUN (ALSO US noun busses, plural noun buses)

The benchmark dictionary (the Oxford English Dictionary) has the plural as buses too, making clear the alternative busses is only used over the pond. When I worked for L.T.'s Schedules Department woe betide anyone who pronounced the word in the American way i.e.skedules. I still shout at the radio/TV whenever I hear it said that way.
