Seen some great videos of this tour on YouTube but a bit puzzled: it was billed as first class in MK1 stock yet still featured two MK2 aircon stock in the consist. Are these crew/staff accommodation? Saphos seems to rely on some Aircon stock to make up the consist for most of their tours, which is a shame as it looks incongruous from a photographer's point of view and I'm personally reluctant to book on a tour where I might be entombed in a "coffin" with no opening vents to hear the engine hard at work.
Cannot fault the loco though, looked superb!

I would be very happy to book on those terms. No interest in hearing a loco working hard. I am paying for a high class and comfortable day out. It did look like a nicely turned out locomotive mind.

No problem with that, it's just weird that on Saphos the diners get the mk1s with opening lights whilst those in steerage like myself will get a "coffin". Maybe Saphos hasn't finished refurbing MK1 TSOs yet? As soon as they do I'll travel with them.

such is life! those of us in the cheap seats travel because those in the posh seats pay for the train ;)

The 'coffins' are also first class. There isn't any standard class on their trains.

Hmmm..the Saphos website has both standard and first on offer....eg:.https://saphostrains.com/journey/english-riviera-express-11-06-22......or are we talking about today's train, which was advertised as first class only? It'd be good to hear from someone who travelled to explain who sat where and what the MK2 aircon brake and open carriage were used for.
