How many Stations on the London Underground?

I was at a pub quiz last night. There was a question about the number of stations on the Underground and the answer was 284. I am sure it came up a few months ago and the answer then was 270; I looked on the internet and that also says 270. I wonder if some stations that Underground...

    Preserved London Underground trains

Great thank you, as mentioned before. I do like the Bakerloo line, hope those 1972 carriages are going to stay for a long time yet, the do have character. Infact it was not really that lomng ago, that sometimes an old red train came along on that line. (By co incidence, all being well, I...

Best exit at Kings Cross St Pancras

The piccadilly is a bit odd as it runs north to south or vv from Cockfosters, then east/west from around Holborn to Acton, then either south/north from there to Uxbridge or east/west to Heathrow. Anyway I did as advised and went to the rear of the train to be by the correct exit at King's Cross.

Best exit at Kings Cross St Pancras

Hi. I know at Kings Cross St. P, when coming from the South on the Victoria line it is best to be at back of train so one can have a shortish walk to escalator for main, old, ticket hall. Is there a similiar short cut from Piccadilly line wgen coming from the South. Trying to avoid the longer...

Hi, I am flying from London City Airport soon. I will get a single ticket from SWR land to Waterloo, then take the Jubilee & DLR to the airport changing at Canning Town. TFL Planner said the fare using contacless is £ 2.40. I know I will have to tap in at Waterloo when doing down to the...

Award-winning design to transform disused Tube tunnels into underground cycle routes

Thank you, I did not realise that those through services finished as far back as 1908. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Shame the tunnels don't quite reach & join up. In some ways, it's a pity that the above mentioned Fleet Line did not go ahead, but I guess the JLE and...

Award-winning design to transform disused Tube tunnels into underground cycle routes

I do seem to remember reading in an Underground history book along time ago, that many years ago, perhaps in the 1920s & 1930s there was a very limited evening service from northern Piccadilly line stations to and from Aldwych, manly aimed at the theatre audiences. There is or was a second...

    Northern Line, Northern Branches

I had to travel to meet a friend yesterday at High Barnet, I traveled there on the Northern Line from Waterloo, I have never been on that branch beyond Camden Town before. I noticed when the train came up above ground, how large East Finchley Station was, it seemed to have four platform...

Award-winning design to transform disused Tube tunnels into underground cycle routes

Yes it was a shame that tram route was not followed up, using the old tram route in Southampton row via Holborn to Aldwych would have have been a good north/south link, faster than the buses.

    Favourite LUL Stock?

The older district line trains where if you are lucky you can still get seats facing (or back) to the direction of travel, rather than sideways seating. Are the new walkthrough trains on the met line this or are they like the electric overground stock which is all side ways seating. ?
