Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

No paint required - as you can see below the yellow line is attached just like the tactile strip, or you can fit blanks which match the rest of the platform surface. https://www.flickr.com/photos/n80426/50918802031/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/n80426/50918113693/

That might be the thinking but surely yellow lines fade too? AIUI the same platform system was used at East Croydon without one: https://flic.kr/p/2jFrNoH

Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

Ultimately the yellow line is where the designers of the pre-fab platform system put it - presumably at a distance that will always be compliant with the relevant standards wherever it's used. Not sure they need a separate line mind, I'd have thought the bright yellow tactile strip would suffice?

Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

The 483-484 adaptor finally put to good use! Thanks to James for capturing the last of the 483s leaving Ryde for Sandown

They never have, train movements aren't updated live on the island - paths may get uploaded but test trains run as required, the ryde pier webcam is the best way to see what's actually happening.

Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

Preparations appear to be stepping up with an early start today, the first time I've heard a train before 7am since the line closed - after weeks of 002 and 003, it also looks like they've moved onto testing (fault free running?) the other pair.

    Island Line Upgrade

Those were old photos; alas it's been the best part of a year since the last 483 ran through Esplanade, so the number may well have been changed. It may only be an issue up close, perhaps just the stopping position for 4-car trains - the second shot below does seem to show the signal's been...

    Island Line Upgrade

Sort of? The signal on the right hand side (34) is still in use but must be hard to see from some angles in the new trains - so they've re-used 35 on the left to show the same aspect, 'co-acting' I think it's called.

    Island Line Upgrade

I believe a decision to remodel the existing station has already been made, there are no plans for a new building given the risk and funding available.

    Island Line Upgrade

It's not in the four foot... but there *is* a co-acting signal! I realised yesterday that the now-redundant signal on the shuttle platform (see below) might explain the lack of obvious change, with photos from the footbridge showing it uncovered again and perhaps a little wonky. A quick walk...

Vivarail to unveil 80mph super-Class 230 at COP26 Unless something goes drastically wrong this must remove any doubt about them getting the Greenford gig.

Of course, which illustrates why we got so lucky with the D78s - they really are at the limit of what can fit.

Fantastic shot by James, they do seem to be clocking up the miles right now - hopefully fault free? 484002 Ryde Tunnel 04/10/21 by James_Pilbeam, on Flickr

Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

Seems daily test running now extends up the pier - some 2-car trains ran in the morning, while a 4-car set arrived at Esplanade at around 13:25 past the hour (returning 10 mins later) on the pier webcam and repeating roughly every hour. All the platforms have been raised or rebuilt for 4-car...

    Island Line Upgrade

The new craft did suffer reliability issues in the early years, but they and - crucially - the new berthing arrangements at Ryde Pier have transformed it's performance in bad weather; it keeps going through almost anything these days, and is often one of the last services to continue running.

They've been out seemingly every day (bar sundays?) for the last two weeks, now using a pair passing at Brading - not necessarily matching the timings mind. I thought Double Deckers did go through Havenstreet many years ago?
