Northern / Carlisle Security - unpaid fare, date of birth, threatened with penalty fare.

You're confusing Northern with a company who are bothered about basic standards of customer service..

    M-Ticket activated but not used.

Saying that you shouldn't activate it until you're on the train is a direct contradiction to Northern's own website - https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/faq/northern-app/1568-what-is-an-m-ticket " An M Ticket is an electronic ticket sent to and stored on your smartphone, and only available if...

Trivia: Largest town/city that isn't served by more than one major city

Ipswich isn't a city, nor is Basildon.

Railcard not accepted when buying ticket at destination

If the ticket office was supposed to be open, but wasn't, then I'd also expect that to be relevant when explaining the time you allowed to purchase a ticket. Had this problem recently at Manningtree on a Saturday. the office had closed at 11am for the day, despite it supposedly being open until...

Railcard not accepted when buying ticket at destination

That's assuming you can even buy the appropriate ticket via phone. I certainly can't always do that - London Travelcards aren't available via the Greater Anglia app.

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

Yep, seen it on internal flights in Sweden.

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

I've been to several coffee shops which have power sockets around the walls (probably been there decades) and power sockets set into some of the tables. None of the sockets are labelled as being for public use or not, but everyone uses them without complaint. Same with one of the restaurants...

Unbelievable, Entitlement at its worst... (couple refuse to move out of clearly reserved seats)

Love the photo of the 12 year old staring at them! Can't believe people are defending the older couple on Twitter - they had no right whatsoever to those seats. Hopefully, the sight of the 4 being upgraded to first class is enough to annoy the seat stealers too.

More Level Crossing Lunacy ! Manningtree and Colchester

They're currently enlarging the car park - extending the upper multi-storey level across the existing car park. If you can work out where they'd get about £10m from, I'm sure they'd happily put in a flood resistant tunnel:D Traffic can be bad any weekday, even during school holidays. It'll...

More Level Crossing Lunacy ! Manningtree and Colchester

It's a really difficult area to do anything in - it's in an AONB, plus flood risk means they're extremely limited in what they can do. Part of the problem was the recent roadworks on the A137 while the new cycle path was installed alongside it - caused even more tailbacks than usual. Essex...

More Level Crossing Lunacy ! Manningtree and Colchester

The tailbacks in the first video were due to roadworks just out of shot - installation of a new cycleway as part of the approval for 250+ new houses just over the river in Brantham. It's extremely common to see people going up and over the crossing rather than under the bridge to try and save...

Greater Anglia Single Justice Procedure Notice

How can the average traveller check if someone is 'Authorised' or not

Greater Anglia Single Justice Procedure Notice

Seems like a bit of a major flaw on their device readers if they only show the expiry date and not the start date of any season ticket. If the staff can't see it, how is the customer expected to check it?

    People Mis-Naming Railway Station/Companies - Habit?

Yep, it's still used on bus timetables, etc. They've got 3 stations, but it's the only one which connects directly to anywhere useful!

    Another paralympian delayed disembarking

She'd tried repeatedly to do so, but the phone wasn't answered - something she's complained about several times. She then contacted the TOC via Twitter and they confirmed they'd arranged assistance. Something went wrong in their internal proceesses and that request either got ignored or lost...

    Requirement to find the guard?

I could equally say that there's a requirement to wear a tutu when travelling and ask you to prove that's not the case. If you're the one saying there may be a legal requirement to seek out a guard, then I'd suggest the onus is on you to back up your claim.

    Requirement to find the guard?

Can you point to any legislation which requires a customer to seek out the guard? And if how, how does that accomodate those not able to seek out the guard for any reason (disability, small children, luggage, crowded trains, etc). It'd also require some way for the customer to know there is even...

Depressing example of Delay Repay runaround

I don't think she's saying that she tried to claim from all three at once, rather that she'd claimed from one and been told to contact another, which the other TOCs then repeated, leading to her annoyed tweet.

Penalty Fare when machine not working

So if one TOC can do it, there's no technical reason why others can't....

Penalty Fare when machine not working

Yep - simple status reporting with timestamps for "last reboot", "last ticket issued", "last aborted transaction", etc. All straightforward enough and nothing not being done in other industries already
