    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

Rather that design a new bi-mode loco with a high diesel power, why not have a detachable diesel section which doesn’t need to be hauled around under the wires. Something radical like putting a class 68 on the front of the train at the end of the wires! Better still take the electric loco off so...

If Class 444s can have a 25kv AC pantograph fitted, why are they not in the 3xx series?

So, when and if a 745 has its diesel power pack replaced by a battery bank, will it need to be reclassified as a 3xx?

If Class 444s can have a 25kv AC pantograph fitted, why are they not in the 3xx series?

I believe that the current Tyne & Wear Metro trains are class 394.

If Class 444s can have a 25kv AC pantograph fitted, why are they not in the 3xx series?

Weren’t the Merseyrail 777s not originally intended to be capable of being fitted with a pantograph to enable running beyond the third rail toward Manchester?

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

In the case of a marine application there isn’t the space constraint that is found on a loco. The limiting factor in updating the engine in a 93 would likely be room for a bigger cooler and other auxiliaries.

    European Class 66's?

Do the 66s have builder’s plates like European built locos and if so where are they fitted? Thanks in advance if anyone can answer.

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

I don’t know if anyone’s zoomed in to the pictures of the 93 but it shows an auto-coupler. This ties in with the news item on www.railopsgroup.co.uk which says in an item regarding the acquisition of 57s from DRS in 2018 ‘The locomotives join ROGs existing class 37 and class 47 locomotives as...

    Double-heading and Banking

A rear loco pushing more than the front occurs when the front power car on an HST shuts down. Nothing bad happens. For freight, Eurotunnel trains are designed so that in the event of one loco shutting down, the other can still power the train out of the tunnel and into the terminal. This gives a...

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

Or is it to make it different from the DRS livery. If your locos are your advertising, you don’t want prospective customers thinking it’s one of the oppositions locos!

Barrow had (and still has) facilities for servicing dmus but no maintenance depot. Didn’t 175s go to Newton Heath for maintenance along with other units?

Network Rail draws up list of ‘no regret’ electrification schemes - New Civil Engineer

Government appears to be holding back the tidal sector which could generate about 9% of the country’s requirements from a Severn barrage which could be balanced by several smaller schemes around the Irish Sea. Before anyone says that generation would stop at slack water (or any other tidal...

Don’t forget the links to the island of Ireland. Sometimes power is imported from continental Europe and passes through to the Emerald Isle without affecting the British mainland.

Sorry, should have included this link https://askjaenergy.com/2018/04/17/icelink-in-operation-by-2025/ which is an article from Iceland which indicates that the Icelandic government would support it. Of course it would entail harvesting more geothermal power.

Network Rail draws up list of ‘no regret’ electrification schemes - New Civil Engineer

Spare electricity from green sources in UK can be exported to neighbouring countries some of whom have generation which is more carbon intense than ours. Although this wouldn’t directly benefit our CO2 emissions, it would reduce regional emissions and contribute to our financial health. When we...

    Middlesbrough railway station masterplan

Doubling up Northern units may be rare but Trans Pennine trains will be five coaches plus a loco in the future. Did I read a proposal to extend TPE trains to Saltburn in the future because of lack of room at Middlesbrough?
