    Southern Day Save ticket

A current problem with this ticket is the situation regarding travelling from Brighton towards Gatwick. Since the December timetable change, there have been no Southern trains from Brighton on the Brighton main line: there were two Thameslink and two Gatwick Express an hour (both GTR brands)...

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

There was a printed poster at Norwich last week warning that trains may be running without first class, and implying that this was something that can happen when introducing new trains. In fact, most of the Norwich trains were formed of 745/1 units last Monday. A trolley service was operating on...

How to get people back on trains post COVID-19?

The Government have now revised their advice for public transport https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-safer-travel-guidance-for-passengers#public-transport Rather than saying “avoid all public transport”, they are now saying: Regarding distancing, they are now saying They...

Is it time to relax the 2m social distancing guideline? (WHO guidance is 1m)

I don’t know whether this has been covered earlier, but National Express are restarting their coach services from 1st July (and ahead of the further lockdown relaxations expected on 4th July) https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/help/coronavirus-safety The diagrams imply that they will restrict...

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

As the 0930 Liverpool St-Norwich was terminated at Ipswich, the return 1200 Norwich-Liverpool St was formed from the 1000 Liverpool St-Norwich (745010), so it was then running half an hour earlier than its normal diagram. The 1030 Liverpool St-Norwich similarly formed the 1230 Norwich-Liverpool...

Class 800 upgrades to address performance and reliability issues

Whilst 1h47m from Worcester to Paddington seems good, it looks to me like it ran non-stop from Worcester to Oxford (the following 0825 Foregate St. to Paddington would be only twenty minutes behind). I suggest 54 minutes for 57 miles with seven stops is not realistic. RTT on manually signalled...

    East coast rewards sale

Just to clarify: we were originally querying the whereabouts of the 100% bonus points, not the standard entitlement --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Add Content

    East coast rewards sale

Thanks Trainlincs – it’s well hidden, as it only seems to be mentioned under a headline relating to new members

    East coast rewards sale

The rewards are based on the “transaction spend”, so if you combined more journeys in one transaction I think you will qualify. I suspect that the products that don't apply refers to things like Superbreak hotel spend : "3 You will earn Points whenever you spend £22 or more (including the...

    East coast rewards sale

I was hoping to book some advance tickets with the 100% bonus points, in order to redeem points at a discount. Having booked the tickets earlier this week, I have been allocated points at the normal rate, but the bonus points haven’t appeared yet. Whilst I can see why they may delay issuing...

    An unusual 'signalling' problem....

Does the reporting number 1P65 mean one pee - 65mins late?

    EC onboard map

It looks like they may have transferred the feed to an HST, as it is currently reporting on 1S03 0710 Leeds to Aberdeen and is presently heading north of Edinburgh

freedom pass & add on must train stop at boundary station

Is there a distinction between a ticket from “boundary zone 6” and a ticket from the boundary station? The ticket machines at Victoria offer tickets from other stations but not, as far as I can see, from Boundary zone 6. Would a ticket from Swanley to Rochester from a machine be just as valid...

    EC onboard map

Things seem to have settled down, after a detour around Rutland and Leeming, North Yorkshire. It looks like we have a new unit working on the 0730 Kings Cross to Edinburgh just north of Newcastle, with a more reliable GPS feed and without the time delay.

    EC onboard map

I suspect that for some reason there is a 30min time delay on the feed, and suggest that the train ran the 1201 York to Kings Cross and 1500 Kings Cross to Glasgow yesterday and is operating the 0650 Glasgow to Kings Cross now. I don’t think that they would run a 450 mile empty stock...

    EC onboard map

There still seems to be a problem with speeds. It looks like this DVT is recording in km per hour, whilst the earlier one used knots. The conversion from the display to mph is .5398 (so 230 equates to 124 mph)

It has just left Retford - 53 late

    EC onboard map

I note that there is a reluctance for the train to exceed 107mph. I know that some GPS software works on nautical miles. Could the feed be using nautical miles? - 107 converts to 123mph
