GWR 16X hitting tree near Dorking (02/04)

I suspect the driver would have seen the tree before the people waving.

Advance tickets on other TOCs following cancellations

If a train is cancelled by operator A, and the next available train is operated by operator B, are the passengers holding an advance purchase or TOC specific ticket entitled to travel on the next available train (even if operator B) or must they wait for the next train by operator A? This...

Government announces additional funding for Yorkshire and the Humber

A cynical election year scheme using our imaginary HS2 money. The gig is up, they're toast this year either way. I will believe it when I see it. They'll spunk that £350m on consultants and then decide not to do it.

    Trip.com Digital Railcards

If you're 30 and buy a 26-30 railcard, ensure you activate it before your 31st birthday otherwise it will bug out and there's nothing trip.com can do. My OH bought one before her birthday with view to buying the "activating" ticket when she needed it within the 30 days as stated by Trip. But...

Four bidders for Elizabeth line operations from May 2025 announced

If the UK train operations were in Japan I'm sure most of the exec would have resigned in shame. There is no way that the standard would be tolerated, whether the cracking or interiors of train being held together with tape.

    This is a scam, right?

    It makes no difference.

Four bidders for Elizabeth line operations from May 2025 announced

I wouldn't get hyped into the idea that it being a Japanese company would make it any better. Take Hitatchi in the UK, it's Japanese style in nothing but name.

Attitude of neighbouring TOCs to an unreliable one?

As a guard myself, if you let that type of thing annoy you/grow tired of, then you are taking the job way too seriously.

    Flushing toilet at station

I'm not sure if/why OP is being coy with the "terminus", but for context this was played at Portsmouth Harbour to avoid people flushing the contents of their bowels into the Solent. Portsmouth Harbour is built on a pier. Obviously its obsolete now because all GWR stock has CET.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

Nothing more annoying that the announcements at platform 13/14 at Piccadilly.

    Preferential treatment for rail staff

Shouldn't be putting colleagues in an awkward position asking to go on ECS without the permission of relevant control. And at that point it's not really ECS if it has a passenger. P.S not sure how this makes staff more important than pax.

Armed police incident at Manchester Piccadilly 03/02

Reading those local news reports make your brain hurt.

Trains skipping stations when they are less than 5 minutes late

I remember working a train that had all stops taken out due to late running and we ended up passing what would have been the penultimate station early. I was cringing as we passed the station very slowly waiting for the signal come off as the passengers stood on the platform. That was pre that...

    Application process

Depends on the TOC and job. Could be anything from weeks to months, but I would suggest it'd be a few weeks after the closing date on average.

    toc staff pass delivery time

Nope. As long as recruitment/HR have submitted the forms to RST you should have the passes within about two weeks I think.

    toc staff pass delivery time

Have you submitted your photos etc to Rail Staff Travel? Your TOC should have submitted a new starter form to RST and you should get passes after that.

    Pay Increase after changing TOC?

The union seems convinced there's no legal obligation. I'm not sure if a tribunal would rule otherwise.

Moving TOC’s as a qualified conductor

Erm, I'm not sure you can speak for everyone here GalaxyDog. It's probably TOC dependent but I moved from one TOC to another and it was easier than applying for an internal vacancy between the guard grades at my old company. No assessments, just a manager interview and then a training needs...
