Proposed tunnel between Waverley and Princes Street station?

I cam across this town plan map from 1851 on the NLS website and noticed that it had a tunnel between the Caledonian Railway's new line going under Lothian Road connecting up the E&G Railway's line going towards what would have been the E&G station (Waverley of course didn't exist at this time)...

Edinburgh to Glasgow - space for suitcases

Thanks for the reply. It will be 2 large 23Kg suitcases you would check-in for a plane. I'm heading to the airport to catch a flight. I think as long as I arrive early enough before the train departs we'll (there'll be 2 of us travelling) be able use the racks.

Edinburgh to Glasgow - space for suitcases

Hi all, I was wondering if there's enough space/luggage racks take transport 2 large suitcases comfortably on the usual Class 385 trains to Queen Street from Waverley? Cheers

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Do those cities have underground Vaults that haven't been explored for decades? Also you'd need pretty deep tunnels to go below Waverley valley and into Leith and South Bridge respectively I would have thought!

"HS2 Back on Track" - front page of Sunday Express - private sector plan to build Birmingham to Manchester

I'm a little surprised by the scathing view of the city too. Of course it has it's rough parts (what large city in the UK doesn't?), but the city centre has a lot going for it, as you describe very well in your post. 1707514091 Indeed. I'm not saying not calling the original project HS2...

Why Campbeltown was never connected to the railway network?

I'll probably answer my own question, but Campbeltown stands out along with Ullapool as fairly large populated areas (by Scottish terms) that didn't get connected to the railways during the "railway mania" era of the 19th century. I do know their was a small light railway, but it wasn't...

    Redoubling of Ladybank to Perth

It was until the 1930s apparently. This OS 25 Inch, 1892-1914 map shows it as double track: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18.1&lat=56.34985&lon=-3.23977&layers=168&right=ESRIWorld

    Redoubling of Ladybank to Perth

Would there be any tangible benefit to redoubling sections of the line from Ladybank to Perth as part of reopening Newburgh station and even possibly stations at Abernethy and Bridge of Earn on top of any capacity benefits?

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Well that's annoying! Hopefully now that ScotRail are fully managing the station, you may have better luck this time. It would be nice if they could let you bookend your fantastic video series.

Borders Railway at Portobello Jct - slow?

There was this article from 2020 of awarding a contract to Arup, but I don't think there has been much news since. I think it was also listed as part of the CP6 enhancements. https://www.scottishconstructionnow.com/articles/arup-wins-contract-on-portobello-junction-enhancement-project
