HS2 Euston - Development, design and construction news (not speculation, please)

Possibly me. Several issues at play: 1. The TBMs need to be physically out of the chamber + a reasonable margin not to impact the fit out of the box including platforms. This need to happen reasonably soon. 2. Spoil extraction has generally shifted to slurry systems (for all the geologies...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

But is that purely rolling stock reliability in the traditional sense given the level of onboard signalling equipment and constant live comms signal requirement in the Core and for ETCS? Still plenty of non Alstom signalling issues involving trains...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

It is widely known TfL (in TfL board papers) have been in discussions with Alstom for 5 more 345s for a while to enable the current 12tph Paddington terminators to run further west to Old Oak Common when the GWML station opens in ~4years time.

    Haymarket to Dalmeny electrification

The target was never a pure 2035 one it was most of electrification done by 2035. This was quietly kicked to back to a 2040 most of electrification target last year with subtle mentions but not a huge announcement - even DfT didn't pick up the subtleness for a while. Electrification costs in...

    HS2 TBM Progress

Track laying is still a long way off. Track gets in the way of other tasks so you hold off for a long as possible. e.g. complete all civils first. The future track alignment also provides and excellent temporary roadway. TBM dismantling will take a while. Beyond the cross passages the...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

There was always going to be a "price discovery moment" as the existing 379 charges were too high. Macquarie (379 second owners) exiting the European ROSCO market and Akiem buying everything including the stuff that wasn't good fit (inc. 379s) delayed that as did Covid. (Akiem probably got a...

Metcam Networkers to be withdrawn at the end of the year?

The BREL units still have the original traction motors, it was the traction inverters that were replaced.

    HS2 Old Oak Common

    a) it is protected. b) there is the rather large North Pole depot in the way... That is exactly what is happening, the complaints revolve around the small number of closures between phases when the tracks are slewed in different ways. (Similar to the London Bridge works phasing). The initial...

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

The key is the increased wire tension in all newer systems. Exposed windy locations are still likely to be an issue requiring shorter spans.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

Or just retrofit ASDO and CSDE as Southern did with the older 377s (and SWT did with 458s). The original slightly naïve 379 ROSCO was penny pinching and didn't want to pay for it.

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

The plan appears to including getting a decent understanding of SFCs operating then looking at synchronising as later step.

    Discontinuous Electrification - RUK's thoughts?

A significant charge occurs overnight, the units get top ups at termini that are less than the energy used per trip cycle, the quick charges between trips effectively significantly reduce the net discharge rate per journey cycle but they still make it through the day.

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

There is probably a subtle difference between physical completion and being able to switch stuff on... The ability to switch on may have been outside NR's control.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

387s have ASDO and CSDE (developed by southern for 377) 379s don't.

    Waterloo station masterplan

But not by NR, by LCR (London and Continental Railways)

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

Yes but this isn't approved yet. All set up for standalone un-synchronised with the future potential to...

    Landslips

Agreed - as thought the rate of change in soil moisture is low and soil moisture levels are reasonably homogenous because of that and also not too many winter storms with high wind speeds to work on the trees. Also the weather over much of the last few years may have already brought out a good...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

They need to be a lot longer than 4car though.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

It is. The core issue is that all those services are short distance metro ones that are theoretically less profitable (or rather more loss making) than longer distance southern ones so harder to a make case for reinstatement...
